Yep. Let's look at a few of those levels, shall we?
First is the fundamental waste of time, resources, health, liberty, calm and reason that football is. Traditionally, sports and games were derived from real life activities. Think of rodeo for example. In its origins at least, it adressed the question, "Who is best at what we do?" The question in football is, "Are you going to end up a cop/soldier/brutalizer, a cripple, or (1 in a million) a star endorsing useless-to-harmful products an informed public would never touch?"
Next, these people are toxic waste on the hoof! Obese, poison consuming, flouridated, aspartame-soaked, constipated, dehydrated sofa spuds who are barely self-propelled might not be entirely stable emotionally. Add to that the fact we live in a society that needs to adress many issues of oppression and exploitation and BINGO there is your recipe for violence. It is misdirected violence, but we all know somebody's ass needs kicking. Congress is insulated from our reach, the corporate/police/court system has us intimidated and our hands effectively tied. That pressure will release and manifest somewhere.
Then there in the inherent hypocrisy in a violent game and violent entertainment in an environment where we are constantly told we should not be violent. Violence is reserved for certain State-sanctioned positions and professions; it's not for you. The irony of cops and league officials saying violence will not be tolerated is absolutely head-spinning.
I could go on, but you either get it or you don't.
