I bought it after reading extensively about it from a man named Doc. Ian Shillington.
That is a name that I have happy to not have heard of in quite a while. I used to be on his Yahoo group about a decade ago. When I signed up his site clearly stated he welcomed debate. But when I called him on some false information he posted then posted evidence he was wrong I was immediately banned from his group and he sent out e-mails to his followers telling people I was a quack and not to have any contact with me.
Then things got worse when several of his followers did contact me to ask me some questions and to tell me what was going on. So he started telling everyone that I was cyberstalking his followers with e-mails to them. Problem with this lie was that once I was banned I did not have access to anyone's e-mail addresses unless they contacted me first. So I would not trust Shillington as far as I can throw him!!! What is ironic is that there is someone here on Curezone that said he is a close friend of Shillington and acts just like him.
Doc Shillington says that DMSO helps things travel to where they need to be, and intensifies the properties of whatever you take it with.
Again this is misleading. DMSO will carry things mixed with it in to the bloodstream. But it cannot direct these compounds to where they are needed. As for the second claim that it enhances whatever you take with it this again is misleading. First of all the closest thing to an enhancement is the fact that it causes things to enter the bloodstream faster, which concentrates the compound in the blood more. Same reason drugs such as heroin are generally injected instead of taking orally. Is this really an enhancement? Not really. It is a surge of the compound on the body leading to a stronger, but shorter duration of the effect rather than the weaker but longer effects if taken orally. That is like saying in electrical that increasing the voltage at the expense of the amperage is an enhancement. To be an enhancement it would actually have to react with the compound to give it more effectiveness at a lower dosage. For example, caffeine is sometimes added to aspirin compounds because the caffeine can work with the aspirin increasing its effects so lower doses can be used to achieve the same effect.
Surging the body with compounds can also present with a number of dangers. What these dangers are depends a lot on what it is being mixed with. For an example if mixed with a stimulant like ephedra the sudden surge of ephedrine could over stimulate the heart. Again the effects of something taken orally and being injected are way different on the body. Combining compounds with DMSO is like injecting these compounds directly in to the bloodstream.
So... if you are using anything... herbal or pharmacuetical, it will enhance whatever you take with it.
Again this is not true. But it does present risks when mixing it with other compounds and applying it.
I think that there are some people that add a few drops to thier tinctures to make them immediately effective.
This is an EXTREMELY dangerous practice. Not everything in herbs is supposed to enter the bloodstream.
It has been dubbed a "cell normalizer" and has been demonstrated to make cancer cells revert to normal in vitro.
"In vitro" means outside the body. Many things have been shown to have an effect outside the body that does not occur in the body. For example, I have posted several times on oleander extract that was shown to be effective against a few cancer cell lines in Petri dishes, but when it came to an actual human study it was found to be ineffective. As another example I have posted about St. Johnswort being claimed to cause infertility since it deformed or killed sperm in a Petri dish. It does not do this in the body though.
DMSO can be used to extract herbs in place of alcohol so that the resulting extracts can be applied topically rather than taken orally, a distinct advantage in many situations.
This is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS thing to do!!! As I pointed out in my last post not everything in herbs is supposed to enter the bloodstream. For example, saponins in numerous plants such as yucca are not absorbed by the body for a very good reason. When saponins come in to contact with red blood cells the saponins hemolyze (destroy) the red blood cells, which can lead to anything from gout to hemolytic anemia. Resins in many other herbs, such as myrrh, also pose a problem since excess resins the bloodstream can lead to kidney damage. These are just a couple of the compounds that either should not be in the bloodstream at all or in limited amounts.
Another issue with this practice is the effects of some herbs should not be sudden and strong. For example, juniper berry is one of several plants with very strong hypoglycemic effects. Producing a sudden and strong hypoglycemic effect by combining a strong hypoglycemic herb with DMSO is dangerous. Same goes for combining DMSO with herbs that are strong vasoconstrictors or vasodilators. Either of these could lead to a heart attack or stroke.
Then there is the issue of toxins found in or on herbs such as heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides, etc. Taken orally heavy metals can be bound by many compounds in plants such as pectins, algins and phytates preventing their absorption. Extracted first in DMSO first though and the metals can be carried right in to the bloodstream and tissues. Herbicides and pesticides are normally detoxified to an extent by the liver when taken orally as they go quickly from the gastrointestinal (GI) tract to the liver. If dissolved in DMSO though the herbicides and pesticides will go in to the bloodstream and deposit readily in the fatty tissues of the body. This is actually a problem with progesterone creams as well. If taken orally much of the progesterone is readily broken down by the liver as it moves from the GI tract to the liver. When applied topically for transdermal absorption though the progesterone accumulates in the fat tissues, which are well known for storing hormonal compounds. Herbicides and pesticides are often hormonal compounds themselves, known as xenoestrogens.
This is a great example of why people need to be extremely careful about where they get their medical advice from, and need to research claims rather than follow them blindly.
Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) is an industrial solvent derived as a byproduct from the paper making industry. When heated an oxygen atom attaches forming DMSO2, more commonly known as methylsulfonylmethane (MSM).
There is a lot of hype surrounding DMSO and MSM. The best I heard was from a lady who selling MSM through an MLM company and was trying to convince me that the MSM they were selling was 100% natural. Problem with that claim is that was it was false. All commercial MSM is synthesized by the heating of DMSO to oxidize it. When I explained this to her she said that it was made from trees. Since DMSO is a waste product of the paper making industry, which uses trees to make the pulp. So technically this could be stretched a long way to make it somewhat true. But then we could use the same reasoning to claim that plastics made from petroleum are also 100% natural since the oil coming from the Earth used to make the plastics is natural.
As far as DMSO goes I really DO NOT recommend people playing with it due to safety reasons. The biggest problem with DMSO is that it travels through the skin at such a fast rate that it actually carries other compounds on the skin with it in to the bloodstream. This includes things such as dirt, bacteria, soap scum, etc.
If someone does decide to still use it they should NEVER use it in combination with ozone. I posted about the Ramirez case a few times that explains why:
