Hi everybody. Please, help me with a dental dilemma.
I ordered a dental compatibility test by Biocomp Laboratories. Report showed that I’m Highly Reactive, (among other metals) to: Zinc, Zinc Acetate, Aluminum, Copper, Mercury, etc. It also stated that I’m Least Reactive (among other metals) to: Zinc oxide, Gold, Platinum, Palladium, Indium, Silver etc.
Before I made my mind to order the test, I already asked my dentist to order 2 gold inlays made of alloy called ARGEDENT BIO 85PF. It has 85% Gold, 12.4% Platinum, as well as 6 other elements of less than 1% each. These elements include Zinc. I called the Argen (alloys supplier) and they specified to me that it contains 0.5% of Zinc. The rest 5 of trace metals are Least Reactive for me. But because of Zinc in it, this alloy was marked as "Highly Reactive" in my compatibility report.
If I ask my dentist to order a different alloy I will have to pay about $1,000 again, because these 2 inlays are already made...
The question is this. How much of a threat will I face if I use Gold-Platinum alloy with high concentration of gold but with 0.5% of zinc in it, if I’m reactive to zinc? Because zinc is in alloy with high noble metals, will it be release easily? Is that a real threat?
The reason why I didn’t order test prior ordering materials is money: I’ve spent so much already for dental work and didn’t want to spend for test. The reason why I did order it is because I was suspicious that I got a reaction to diamondlite composite, as well as gold. Report showed that I’m Least Reactive to diamondlite, as well as gold and platinum (which is good news).
Just for information: I don’t have any known allergies, generally in good health; I had 12 composites for 10 years (even though the recent test showed that I’m Highly Reactive to Mercury). Didn’t see obvious signs of poisoning but I decided not to play with fire any longer and am having them replaced. Teeth were stained under it and started to crack.
Will 0.5% of a Highly Reactive metal in an alloy pose a threat to my health???

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,817,674Metal sensitivities get worse as they are constantly exposed to you. A tiny amount can still cause you to be reactive and we're talking 24/7 contact with your oral and GI tract, I would not risk it. Especially if risk was HIGHLY reactive, not just reactive. Even the tiniest amount of nickel in jewelry can cause people to break out.
I've learned to get it done RIGHT the first time, cause if you're going to have to go back and change it later (or worse, spend more money figuring out what it is thats causing problems and THEN replace it) youre paying a lot more.
Ask the dentist to refund the product and you'll pay the restocking fee. I dont see why you'd have to pay retail. Or go to a different dentist if he's being stubborn.- Re: Dental compatibility test: react... Aragorn

Actually, the test shows reactivity to all materials. There are 3 categories: Highly reactive, Moderate reactive, and Least reactive. There isn’t such thing as no reaction on this test. It also says that I’m Highly reactive to Zirconium. I was going to use Zirconia inlays as well… I’m not a chemist, but can someone explain to me difference between Zirconia and Zirconium? Zirconia is what used in dentistry now, not Zirconium, so why Zirconium was used in the test? I thought Zirconia is considered as NON-metal because it is in oxide powder form (king of salt), not metal. So why was it in metals section, and why was it Zirconium?
So if I was to avoid any metal then according to this test I can’t put Zirconia either (again, what’s the difference between Zirconium in test and Zirconia?). And because I’m highly reactive to Aluminum, I’m wondering if they just tested for aluminum and determined reactivity to Zirconium following from reactivity to Aluminum?
I’ve heard a lot about toxicity of Palladium, but it says I’m Least Reactive to Palladium...
Going back to the zinc issue: It says I’m Highly reactive to Zinc and Zinc Acetate, but Least reactive to Zinc oxide. Which form of zinc do we consume with food and as mineral supplements?
Is there are way to determine the amounts of zinc that can be released from a gold inlay where zinc is of 0.5%?
If someone has answers to any of these questions, I’d appreciate that.
