I first experienced flaming urethral burning 25 years ago when 7 months pregnant with my first child. I had a urinary tract infection that wasn't cured for 3 weeks, and the pain got so bad that I didn't eat or drink for an entire weekend so that I wouldn't have to urninate. I was finally sent to a urologist who catheterized me and discovered the bacteria that was causing the problem. 6 months later my urine flow started getting very small. I've struggled on and off for the past 25 years, including interstitial cystitis for awhile, but the burning was worst the first few years. I had allergy testing about 5 years ago and am allergic to various foods, including cranberries. I got sicker when my ob/gyn had me drink cranberry juice when I first got the infection. Now I know why. I've noticed that certain foods and spices cause my urethra to burn, especially "spicy" spices and black pepper. I think there's a connection with chocolate as well.
I do better on a vegan diet, and it is also better if I have frequent bowel movements, which have improved with the vegan diet.
My suggestions are to have allergy testing (mine was a blood test), try a low-fat vegan diet, do not consume chocolate or other caffeine, alcohol, dairy (feeds yeast), sugar, or salt. Eat whole foods instead of processed foods (when eating cooked foods, make it boiled potatoes/sweet potatoes, cooked fresh beets, brown rice and other whole grains instead of bread/crackers/cereal that are more "drying" to your body.
I'm not healthy yet, but I have lapsed back to eating "junk" when I start feeling better. Don't make my mistakes and get better quicker and enjoy life! Best wishes.
