Hi,
I have been trying to heal the chronic fatigue I've had for 10 years. I have myoclonic epilepsy in which seizures are jerky movements, not convulsions like everyone thinks; this is under control and I have not had any seizures for a long time.
I was diagnosed with severe Vitamin D deficiency, placed on prescription D2 (50,000 units per week) beginning January, 2011. In March, the prescription stopped I began taking one D3 2,000 IU supplement daily, as was recommended by my dr. I feel hardly any difference.
I had private tests done myself before being diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency. These included the following results:
CBC with differential (the only thing abnormal was high TIBC - level of 493 when normal range was 250-450 - and high UIBC - level of 390 when normal range was 150-375; however RBC, WBC, Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, Serum Iron, and Serum Ferritin were all normal; so it's not anemia. Serum ferritin level was 28 when range was 13-150.) My dr could not explain the high TIBC/UIBC levels when everything else turned out normal. My own research indicated that if you have high TIBC, you should have an iron deficiency, but my iron level is normal!
Hemoglobin A1C test for
Sugar levels was normal.
Micronutrient test showed some "deficiencies" (these were at the minimum level) in vitamin B1 (minimum level was 79 and my level was 78); chromium (minimum level 41, my level 40); glutathion (minimum level 42, my level 40), selenemium (minimum level 74, my level 72), vitamin E (minimum level 85, my level 84). I tried vitamin B1 and vitamin E supplements for 1 month after this test, with no difference.
When my dr. ordered the test that discovered vitamin D deficiency, he ordered the following tests as well:
basic metabolic panel (everything normal)
a.m. cortisol (normal; this was a blood test, which I've recently learned may be the incorrect testing method)
magnesium (normal)
EBV Ab profile (normal).
I have tried other supplements that I've read about to help with fatigue: coenzyme Q10 (took for approx 1 month) and vitamin B12 (took for two months) and never experienced any result.
I did have a sleep study done to rule out narcolepsy in order to be diagnosed with epilepsy. The results were normal and my current dr used this result to determine that I do not have sleep apnea.
Does anyone have any ideas to help me? I'd really appreciate it.
