Got back from the clinic about an hour ago and man do I feel like dung. Pretty stressful being there again, tachcardia, high BP, etc. What made it the worst was when they took my vitals, my blood
Sugar was 69 already, which was odd for me, since I had already eaten about 30 minutes prior to that reading. Then the doctor didn't come in for another 20 minutes or so, so by the time I walked out of there I was staggering, etc. Almost didn't make it. I hate having my blood
Sugar get that low.
Anyways, while the doctor was talking, I wasn't very coherent due to low blood glucose, but it looks like they're finally listening and getting somewhere. This time the doctor didn't bring up ANY of that crap about it just being a psychiatric problem and all that.
Here's what I remember him saying:
- He said my thyroid hormone is a little elevated, but it's just out of range. He doesn't think the thyroid is the culprit behind my problems, but he may look further into it. I don't know what thyroid hormone he was referring to, but it wasn't the TSH.
- He has a theory that my heart is going all crazy when I stand up and exert myself and it slows down when I slouch over or lay down because of the stenosis in my carotid arteries. The carotid bulb sinuses are what regulate the speed and blood pressure of the heart, and depending on my position, I may be putting more pressure on the nerves in the artery that regulate it. Apparently he talked to two other doctors who agree to that possibility. Tomorrow is my carotid duplex ultrasound. It is true that my arteries where clogged, and I do have very strong pain in the bulb of the right carotid, but I don't know if his theory is what is going on with me because I've had that stenosis since 2008 and between then and now I've had periods where my heart was mostly ok.
- He does think my adrenals play a role now. He thinks I may be releasing too much of the adrenals hormones which is putting my metabolism into overdrive basically, which is causing me too burn up my blood
Sugar too quickly, causing all the anxiety responses, dehydration, etc. I asked if my problems with being skinny is possibly related; he said yeah, it could be. So, tomorrow morning I'm coming in for more labs, no fasting this time thank God. He mentioned renin and aldosterone (excellent!), as well as some others I didn't catch. He also mentioned doing a CT scan of the adrenals depending on the labs or something. He said tumors are a possibility ("Worst case scenario, we're going to have to take the adrenals out.")
- The results for the fasting insulin isn't in yet, unfortunately. Apparently my blood glucose was 74 though. I asked about insulinoma and he said that's a possibility too, so they're going to look into that too. Great.
- My LDL cholesterol was 174 and my total cholesterol is 297, if I remember correctly. He prescribed a statin, which I'm not going to take. He also doesn't want me eating all that greasy fat. I don't believe in the lipid hypothesis. It could be all the chemicals and damaged proteins in the ground beef and beef fat I eat, but it's more likely the hormonal problem I seem to be having that is tearing up my body, causing all the cholesterol to show up. My cholesterol was 226 in 2008 and during that time I ate nowhere near as much meat as I do now. Maybe the way I eat now, with all the nutritional deficiencies, just exacerbates the already-present problem.
That's pretty much all I remember now.
