I've been reading about antioxidants feeding cancer cells.
Cancer cells do not feed on antioxidants, they feed on glucose. Cancer cells actually lack the antioxidants produced in normal cells, which is one of the reasons ozone therapy is so effective against cancer cells.
He has a G tube (feeding tube) now, and his blood sugar has been up the last few days. Sometimes his sugar drops really low.
Keeping glucose under control is helpful. Cancer cells have a much higher metabolism that normal cells, and therefore are much heavier feeders of glucose. This is also the basis for using controlled insulin comas for the treatment of cancer. With their higher metabolism the cancer cells will starve to death long before healthy cells. But simply cutting out sugar from the diet is not going to work. The body will simply produce its own glucose from a variety of other sources such as lactate, proteins, fats, glycogen, etc. So the goal is basically to reduce sugar intake instead of eliminating it. Increasing fiber intake will slow glucose absorption to prevent glucose and insulin spikes.
People with cancer should also avoid strong hormone sources such as farm raised meats and dairy.
Is there a correlation between fasting blood glucose levels or A1c and incidence of cancer?tThere should be since cancer feeds on glucose but I have never found any study that supports that theory.
I doubt if there is any correlation. Even though cancer cells feed on the glucose, elevated glucose does not cause cancer. A simple analogy would be pregnancy. Cancer cells and human fetuses actually have extremely similar characteristics including a heavier feeding on glucose. But elevated glucose will not make a women pregnant. When the fetus is created though the developing fetus will utilize the available glucose at a higher rate than the mother.
I guess that means all the sage advice to cut back on sugar to fight cancer is misguided.
To an extent. Again it goes back to a balance. It would be about impossible to eliminate sugars from the diet entirely. Even steak is going to contain sugars. And even if we could the body would generate its own glucose.
Keep in mind that the primary fuel for cells is glucose. So why don't people stop functioning when they go on water fasts for weeks on end? Their body generates glucose from other sources such as glycogen and fats to keep them going.
But people should not overdo it either spiking their blood sugar. What I was getting to was consuming sugars in moderation is fine, especially when consumed with fibers to slow absorption. This will increase the chances that most of the glucose will be utilized by healthy cells, such as muscle, instead of cancer cells.
Antiviral and immune boosting herbs can help, but since it is spread to the liver I really advise the ozone. Liver cancer tends to be very aggressive and more aggressive therapies are really needed.
Herbs such as chaparral or black walnut would be especially good choices since they also inhibit cellular division of cancer cells. As long as he has a G-tube though leave the chaparral alone since its highly resinous nature can make it stick inside the tube.
Suma, chagas or birch bark would also be excellent choices.
