...more than I disagree with him, but in that article the opposite is definitely true!
This? >>>When we take echinacea, or another "specific" immune herb, we call immune cells that are created in the bone marrow (where all immune cells first arise) up to the surface. If we keep calling them up, and yet do not provide them with an environment from which to flourish and be nurtured, then it is obvious that we will shortly run out of reserves.
When this happens, our immune system is on the verge of a deeper, more profound weakness or "deficiency." This can eventually lead to immune collapse and inevitably, immune ailments such as chronic fatigue syndrome, which is thought to be a result of viral infection, candidiasis or even cancer<<<
Compared to this: Echinacea: a Miracle Herb against Aging and Cancer? Evidence In vivo in Mice showing that daily Echinacea increases immunity and life span compared to no echinacea, or sporadic doses.
And these: Echinacea extracts modulate the pattern of chemoki... [Phytother Res. 2006] - PubMed result Questions and Answers: Echinacea – new scientific insights proving that all the nonsense about the possibility of the immune 'stimulating' effects causing a cytokine (or chemokine) storm in the prescence of a volatile flu virus...is hogwash. But rather, that Echinacea does indeed MODULATE a dangerously high immune response.
This is just one of MANY dreadful myths about echinacea :( And when I see something as 'wrong as this', it brings the rest of the article into question.
I have been taking very high-caliber Echinacea tincture daily (when I remember it), for years, and many others on this forum use it regularly...only to experience wonderful benefits.
Echinacea is an immune regulator & modulator (very similar to an adaptogen). That's why we see an increase in macrophage cells for 7-10 days, and then no further increase. It would be harmful if it continually stimulated and overworked the immune system, but it does not do that. And this is what we frequently encounter with 'textbook herbalists' that do nothing but 'study studies' :( :( :(
Echinacea has MANY more actions in the body that just "immune action": Echinacea - MANY BENEFITS
When you have the time (if you're inclined) read through this: ~!~ Schulze GEM! How to choose a protocol/teacher/book MUST READ then you will have a much better idea of how important it is to "qualify" the authors and "healers" that we read.
Also, mixing TEM & TCM is not such a great idea. Sure, they're both healing", but the fundamental methodologies to get a desired outcome are totally different. If we stick with one or the other, we generally get what we want. Mix them together? It rarely works. I'm not saying individual therapies (such as accupuncture/pressure) can't work with Western healing, just that the foundation baselines & concepts many times conflict greatly...and one has to be EXTREMELY knowledgeable before mixing the two fundamentally.
Great question :)

P.S. By the way, I do have three responses I'm working on with your name on them :::wink:::
