Prepare for a rant. After years of duodenal ulcers, candida, chronic fatigue, lyme's, toxic metals, osteoporosis, colitis, esophagitis, leaky gut, h-pylori,osteoporosis, malaise, brain lesions, panic attack, hormonal and nutritional deficiencies, etc., and subsequent therapies for relief, I've finally solved the puzzle regarding the cause of my poor health. I am a blood type A+ NON SECRETOR, therefore, I don't express antigens in my saliva and have low iga protection. Prior to this discovery, I recognized the benefit of protecting my mucosal tissue, intuitively, through the years, and more recently, benefit from the stringent typeA non secretor diet.
In my opinion, the non secretor status, while affiliated with the blood, should be categorized as a "mucosal disorder",to be determined at birth. From the moment we "nonnies" arrive, mucosal protection from outside invaders is reduced, later damaged, and by the time leaky gut arrives, derangement of processes have developed. Our mucosal membrane is the body's first line of defense against environmental toxins. All of the cascading physiological misappropriations due to low iga cause wear and tear, leading to disease, without too much fun along the way."Slow in, fast out." I believe knowing the secretory status, as a "mucosal disorder", thereby protecting oneself earlier in life, would extend the years of feeling ok into the 60's and 70's rather than the 20's and 30's for so many of us.
I'm not trying to paint a bleak picture, just being honest. Many of my best attributes have come from this journey of mine, and I appreciate taking care of sensitive self along the way, instead of hitting a brick wall.
But I believe this problem is the basis for the asundry autoimmune problems, probably most of the list above. One of my doctors told me that about 20% of his patients never seem to improve. Could he be referring to non secretors? It's likely.
