The liver produces bile which is dark green. This bile is what gives healthy stool its brown color. A lack of bile will cause the stool to become very pale in color.
The liver breaks down fats. If the liver is not functioning properly, it can't break down the fats and the stool will always float.
A good healthy stool will be the length and width of an infant's arm. (the shape of the stool is the shape of the colon...this is why narrow, pencil-thin stools are ALWAYS cause for alarm)
It will be some shade of brown & will come out in one or two well-formed pieces.
A healthy stool does not have an unpleasant odor.
The stool can give many clues to health of the body from which it came.
