As we continue to battle in the dark, without the help of the scientific community at large, I want to report a success story, in the hopes that others could find the same healing that I have discovered.
I contracted moderate to severe
Seborrheic Dermatitis as an immediate side effect of just two large doses of the medication Bardoxolone methyl/RTA 402, about a year ago. (see my first post on this board)
Since then dermatologists have been totally unhelpful. I have tried just about every over the counter medication ever suggested for SD, and those familiar with this struggle, know... that is a lot.
In my continued experiments and scientific research, in the hopes of understanding this infection's pathology and finding a cure (and believe me fellow soldiers, WE WILL FIND A CURE), I want to share that I have am very hopeful and joyous to have possibly found a simple remedy for the relief of SD.
Some holistic professionals have stated to me their strong belief, despite no scientific data to back it up, that SD is a parisitic or viral infection, in at least some part of its pathology. There is however strong evidence of an auto-immune malfunction connection, and to this extent a viral implication must be considered at least possible.
It is also interesting to note that there have been scientific findings that the rate of
Seborrheic Dermatitis is very high amongst those in communal hospice settings. This may be another indicator of a yet undiscovered viral or parisite link. I have also researched a possible connection to the hospice case, with the idea of blood draw needles creating heavy metal poisoning.
This all only remote conjecture. I feel sometimes like we are only small sparks of light in the darkness.
We must keep fighting, experimenting.
Another bit of evidence for me, is that the only long term relief of SD i have ever experienced was from severe sun burn. DO NOT TRY THIS. The 2nd degree burns i experienced were a desperate attempt at a cure, and were not worth it. THE 2ND DEGREE BURNS WERE FAR WORSE THAN THE SD. SUNBURN IS IRREVERSIBLE IN ITS DAMAGE AND EVENTUALLY CANCEROUS. And to boot, after two months, the SD slowly returned. Perhaps if my goatee was shaved the effects would have been longer standing, as the SD scaling area re-started 2 months later, below my goatee and the scaling slowly moved up my facial sebaceous glands, to the nasal edge areas.
If we consider leaky gut to be a prime factor, why would UV light have such a long term effect? The efficacy of UV therapy would seem to indicate that SD is not an infection that is solely based in leaky gut.
From this conjecture, I moved forward and researched natural anti-viral sources. I have since been experimenting with tumeric and licorice.
I was very pleased to find that for every cup of licorice root tea that I drank, I had no scaling and no SD occurance on my face for a full 12 hours. I have been drinking a cup of licorice root tea before going to bed, and waking up with no scaling.
I want to caution that this is a preliminary insight, and that it's possible that I have not removed other factors, and that the licorice root may be acting in combination with another supplement, or that another supplement is actually doing the work, but at this point, after about 5 cups of tea on seperate days, I have narrowed down my intake pattern, and I am at least 80% certain that the licorice root is providing this effect.
Licorice is known to provide both anti-viral and anti-inflammatory effects on the body. It is certainly also possible that its efficacy is as a result of intestinal coating, with a possible relation to leaky gut, as I have noticed that the tea has a very unique sticky consistency.
AFTERNOTE :
Topically I would also like to mention that I have found a mixture of tea tree oil and E oil as the most immediately effective solution. Raw aloe has provided some relief as well, and it is of course highly moisturizing, but seems to require about 5 applications to see significant anti-scaling results. I have tried just about everything under the sun, topically. Although, I have yet to try the very pricey anti-viral ointments such as Famvir, Acyclovir or Abreva, which have been reported by some SD sufferers to bring great success.
I will provide more insights as they come.
Keep up the good fight. Believe me. We will win.
