A long time ago someone told me that 'disembodied spirits' may want to control living people; and somehow I learned that our own connection to the 'spiritual' side of life is more powerful than anything that could come at us.
When I was afraid I didn't like the feeling, nor did I like my own thoughts, sometimes.
I found that I could come out of silly thoughts, and sometimes fearful ones, with, "No!"
If I am lying down, I will sometimes get up and take a walk around the house, watch some TV, even stretch and do a little impulse yoga, and so on...whatever seems to work.
I also think that, since there is no time, I will imagine something warm and wonderful from the future. If I can imagine it, I can live it, now.
Of course, some would call that 'wishful thinking', etc.
;)
Who knows for sure?

P.S. The strength to change one's thoughts, relax, improve...seems to become more powerful with practice. Perhaps it is best to practice when one's thoughts and imaginings are NOT traumatic.
Practice on simple things is best, I think.
"No, I'll save this bun for later."
"Yes, I'll take a walk, first."
