Dr. Jeff,
I was just recently diagnosed with having this species called Rhodotorula from the stool sample given and although I know it is similar to candida can you get more specific on exactly what it is? My doctor didn't really explain it that well. he has me on Nystatin, a diet free of sugar and carbs and taking a probiotic by Standard Process. Been on it for 2 weeks and feel no different and getting discouraged.
Can you offer any advise?

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,636,493It's not a fungus that would be considered abnormal to find in humans, and mostly seems to be problematic in immunosuppressed people. Much more will come out on this fungus in the future and mostly will implicate its virulence traits to be similar to other fungals, as well under the right conditions, it's not a problem. I would treat it as I would candida.

Why do you think more will be said on the subject? Is it so hard to detect. I agree and I have been told to treat it as Candida. My concern is there is so little online about Rhodotorula.

Some of the more recent discoveries of different strains don't have enough information about them as yet. As more science comes along, we discover that micro-organisms have so many different survival and virulence mechanisms in place that have evolved over millions of years, that it's best to choose natural methods for elimination as much as possible so to avoid generating superbugs. In other words, whenever possible, stay away from meds.
