Forgive the over simplification:
The magnesium in
Epsom Salts helps relax the bile duct tissue by reducing striated muscle contractions thus allowing the ducts to 'stretch,' which is why
Hulda Clark makes the statement
"There is no pain because the bile duct valves are open (thank you Epsom Salts !)"
It is because of this 'relaxation' ability that taking a dose of
Epsom Salts in water helps reduce the pain of a gallbladder attack.
Unlike the (mineral) magnesium of the epsom salts which is absorbed into the bloodstream, olive oil never reaches the liver; it stays in the alimentary canal and simply cannot pass into the liver or the gallbladder. The presence of oil/fat in the stomach causes a chemical signal to be sent to the liver and gallbladder to start dumping bile into the stomach so the body can digest the oil.
