Thank you for the reply. I should start by saying that over the last 12 months I've read a lot on the internet (forums, blogs, pubmed, etc) to try to understand what is going on with my body, and when I read your description of SAS overactivation, of metabolites/toxins build-up, etc I could swear I was reading my own story. Since you know what I'm going through, you are likely to have a better idea of how to fix it than doctors who dont.
I think that a major factor for my low toxin clearance (and for my severe adrenal fatigue) could be my old office. Several officemates and I ended up feeling lethargic after a few months using it. When I realized how it was affecting me I stopped using it, but it was too late. I'm talking about something like the sick building syndrome.
As far as vitamin C is concerned, I bet you know that right now I'm basically fueling on it, together with stimulants like sulbutiamine (a form of vitamin B1), amino acids like tyrosine, etc. I'm talking about large doses. Without so much vitamin C and the rest, my immune system becomes deficient and my energy levels drop so low that my body just wants to shut down. That happens even if I sleep 14h in a row and take 3 times 5 isocorts during the day.
I think I'll need 25-30mg of hydrocortisone to be able to cut back on the supplements, maybe some more mineralocorticoids or other things as well. Your call.
I'm willing to follow everything you'll tell me, including reducing daily vitamin C. But there is one thing very dear to my heart.
I'm sure you know that ascorbic acid (AA) is the stress vitamin in the animal world. Very high plasma AA levels (several times above renal treshold) is the way most animals respond to an infective challenge or an intoxicant. Such rise of plasma AA is required to significantly rise the AA in white blood cells and is very efficient at stimulating cell mediated immunity. The same goes for the cells in the adrenal cortex and other tissues in the HPA axis (I'm not making this up, here are two links and I can produce more 1 2 ). It has been shown that oral vitamin C will not raise plasma levels significantly in AA "replete" people.
So it's dear to my heart that at some point in the fairly near future I try 1000g IV of sodium ascorbate, over the course of 3-4 days, at 60grams/hour (rate needed to raise plasma levels to >400mg/dL). I will take plenty of vitamin E to prevent the almost non-existent risk of some hemolysis. civprep
I've left a message at your office to schedule an appointment asap.
See you then
