Adverse Reactions:
Few reactions have been reported in the literature other than brief stomach discomfort, diarrhea, and mild allergic reactions. If you are allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, and daisies, you may be allergic to Milk Thistle.

Drug Interactions:
Milk Thistle may interact with the following drugs: lorazepam (Ativan), lamotrigine (Lamictal), entacapone (Comtan), amitriltyline (Elavil), clopidogrel (Plavix), clozapine (Clozaril), diazepam (Valium), estradiol (Estrace), grepafloxacin (Raxar), mirtazepine (Remeron), ondansetron (Zofran), Tacrine (Cognex), verapamil (Calan), warfarin (Coumadin), zileuton (Zyflo), lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), Itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra) and triazolam (Halcion).

Always tell your doctor if you are taking Milk Thistle, especially if you are also taking any prescription drugs.

Sounds like you are having a detox reaction. But as the other poster said, you may be allergic.

You need to be very, very, careful. SSRI's....especially at the doseage you are taking, is very hard on the liver.....and really, the whole body.

You have, IMHO, a very bad mix. You are on birth control pills, which cause terrible candida. You are also on Luvox, and a very high dose at that. Both of these drugs are really wreaking havoc on many systems in your body. While I would never try to dispense any medical advice, I am very much for people trying to get to the root of their health issues without the use of SSRI's. They are just too dangerous. While I have no desire to sound like I'm giving unsolicited advice, I have had so many close friends and associates who really had terrible issues and problems with SSRI anti-depressants like Luvox.

At the very least, please educate yourself with exactly what they do to the brain, and why, in the long run, they may not be the answer to problems you may be having.

A book by Harvard-educated doctor named Dr. Glenmullen called "Prozac Backlash" explains very succinctly why the drugs can be very bad for some people. Dr. Ann Blake Tracy has written a book also, called, "Prozac; Panacea or Pandora?" Both of these experts do know what they are talking about and both have done enough research and treated enough people to understand the danger in taking SSRI drugs.

Again...I don't want to alarm you or sound like I'm giving unsolicited advice....but I do know that a congested liver and bowel can and does cause depression. If you went onto Luvox for depression, perhaps liverflushing can help greatly.

The dosage of your milk thistle product sounds to me very odd. 1.000 mg - of what.
As you may know, the active ingrediences of milk thistle are silymarins. Any reasonable thilk thistle porduc should have an information on the label that informs about the strenght of the silymarins.

I highly suspect that the M.T. product you took is not the best under the roof. By no means milk thistle should induce these unwanted effects you had. On the contrary, most people get more alert and feel a lot better even after a few days.

Mild thistle is a very bitter herb and its energetics are cold.
If you take a large amount of it with a meal you can disrupt your digestion, which will then make you very tired and produce toxins in the body from incomplete digestion.

The symptoms you describe, fatigue, weakness, chills, can be a sign of aggravating the vata dosha (as is anxiety). Your digestion is not strong enough to take a large dose of a bitter tonic without assistance from digestive enzymes or carminative herbs.

You could be allergic to the milk thistle, but this is rare. If you want to continue with the milk thistle, take it between meals and take some carminative herbs such as ginger, cumin, coriander and fennel, a digestive blend like trikatu or hingwastika or at a minimum, digestive enzymes with your meals to help you body along. Another option is to drink ginger tea with meals as this is warming and helpful for a weak digestion. You can buy ginger tea in tea bags for convenience. I like to make it with fresh ginger by peeling and chopping about 2 tbsp of fresh ginger root to a pint of water in a saucepan. Bring it just to a simmer then turn the heat off and let it sit for 10 - 15 minutes. Strain and drink. You can add a little honey to the cup if you like, just don't cook the honey.

You may want to read up on glutamine and consider supplementing with this amino acid as glutamine helps with the Sugar cravings/addictions. Glutamine will help repair the intestinal wall and thereby help prevent food allergies . It is also an enegy source for the brain. I take it to help keep my blood Sugar levels steady, reduce brain fog and increases my energy levels.
