I don't mean curezone moderators, I mean, in general. It seems to me that there's bunch of folk acting in moderator capacity on various forums all over the internet, and if one posts something in disagreement with their own self-professed "wisdom", they get their socks all bent up and ban posters and/or run off in rants on their own forums.
What is it about moderating a forum, that makes people think they have "power" ? Given most internet forums have posters that are anonymous, and the forum moderators often go under an anonymous alias, what is it about the human mind in some cases that makes some people believe they're doing any good at all ? I mean, if they had any real Truth, they wouldn't need to be anonymous in the first place, and then try to impress people who write in anonymously. Is it a grab to have "power" over the anonymous, since they have no real power in the real world ? Ahhh.... the old "anonymous power grab" !!
Insecurity and lonliness have crossed my mind, but I think there's more to it than that sometimes. Any thoughts ?
I'm not a moderator on any internet forum, havent't been for quite some time, having long ago voluntarily rescinded any I might have had.
Is it, that "some" people lack social skills in the real world that the little part in the back of their mind that wants attention comes through to compensate for social interacition in the real world ?
To those moderators who post and let known their real names, this doesn't apply, and there's at least one on CZ. At least such folk are man (or woman) enough to stand by their words, which is respectable.
I know more than two people who hold MD and PhD degrees. When we lunched they've come out plainly and stated how little they know. So, I'm ranting and raving about the people who have neither of those, who think they're so friggin smart.
Those who know the most, always speak the least. Humbled before God, perhaps.
Does anonymous power lead to tyranny ? Yes. That's what happens in governments, people behind the scenes whose names are unknown can wreak all kinds of crap, because they have no fear of retribution.
Can you imagine, if some of these folk were in power positions in government, either de facto or de jure ?
Its the stuff revolutions are made of
Beware of anonymous charlatans, is all I can figure. They're the worst.
Of course that's not to say that all anonymous people are "bad" or "evil", etc.
But it is an opportunity for "some".
