It was incredible how immersed a "newbie" was expected to become, and I did, and then how much I had no life when I finally tore myself away from them - still rebuilding now. There was a serious void left from the transition out of the party animal world into A.A. and then 'out' again where the CONDITIONAL nature of relationships with fellow members became quite clear. If you are not one of them they no longer know you like M.D.'s if your insurance runs out.
