AIDS is not a virus, it is a syndrome (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).

HIV is a virus that can only be claimed to cause AIDS because they changed the definition of AIDS to fit the virus back in the 1980s.  Under the original definition of AIDS though HIV could not cause AIDS.  The only virus capable of causing AIDS under the original definition is human herpes virus type 6 variant A.

As a syndrome though AIDS has more than one cause, including some of the anti-retroviral drugs, such as AZT and its analogues, given to patients testing HIV+.  By the way HIV+ DOES NOT mean infected with HIV or even exposure.  There are over 65 known causes for false positives on HIV tests.
