"I'm concerned about the purity of the distilled water. I did the water test in manual mode and slowly pulled the generator out of the water, the LED started to dim about 1/2 way out, should't it start to dim immediately if the water is good?"
JAB
Just so it doesn't come on full bright when the tips touch the water. Sounds normal.
"I let it run in auto, the LED shut off at 2 hours and 15 minutes for 8
oz. of water, a 1/2 pint canning jar."
JAB
A little quick but you can't really tell by the time.
"The finished batch came out clear like water with some floaty things on top, it tastes bitter. Can I take some right after the batch is done?...or do I have to wait a period of time for it to "stabalize"."
JAB
If it isn't cloudy your water was good. Clear is considered the smallest particles. It's normal to have some sludge and cinders in the finished product. You can drink it right away. Either let the cinders and sludge sink to the bottom and pour off the top. Or filter it with a non bleached coffee filter.
Sounds like your the type that needs a conductivity meter to measure the water before and after.
