Just thought I would post my experience because I it was a little weird. I'm almost 5 months post Mirena (yay!) and trying dilligently to keep my cycle regular and rebalance those hormones!
Unfortunately, I caught some version of the flu (could be H1N1 since I didn't get vaccinated, but who knows) EXACTLY on the day that my period was supposed to start. The flu cleared up in about a week, but my period was a no-show. I know that any kind of physical or mental trauma can screw with your cycle, and am pretty sure this is what happened.
However, SOMETHING in my body seemed very upset that AF didn't arrive as scheduled, and I proceeded to have two weeks of the WORST PMS I have ever experienced coupled with a return of many of my Mirena symptoms (possibly another crash). Insomnia, night sweats, depression, anxiety, irritability, increased eye discomfort and stomach upset.
Finally, tired of waiting, I turned to my trusty emmenagogue -- sipping on parsley and ginger tea (it works!) -- for a couple days and my period arrived 2.5 weeks late, with cramps that I can only describe as an angry cat wrapped in razor wire struggling to escape my uterus. I have NEVER felt anything like it and just curled up in a ball over the weekend with a bottle of Advil.
So yeah ladies, I'd be curious to know if anybody else has had the flu cause a setback or messed up your cycle as it did mine.
