Hi Ruth,
I used a diaphragm for years. It
can take getting used to, and it
does take a bit of the spontaneity
out of lovemaking since I did not
like to insert it hours ahead of
time if I was anticipating mutual
oral foreplay. Once you and your
partner get used to it though, it is
just a thing, like putting on a
condom except that you are inserting
one into your uterus. I became an
expert at it and also found it useful
for the first days and last days of
my period when having sex. It was
good for containing low flow.
It worked well for us as I never
got pregnant aside from the planned
one :)
