Hi Im a 27 year old African woman and I have had painful periods since I was 11yrs old. After many doctor's visits and even at one point being put on the pill at 14 doctors this year discovered I had endometriosis and fibroids in my uterus. I had laproscopic surgery to treat the endo but doctors ran out of time to remove the fibroid. Since my surgery in May my periods worsened in particular the pain, bleeding and mood swings. This month has been excruciating as my period has prolonged for about a month. Last week I was admitted to hospital because I was gushing out blood. The doctors did an ultrasound to find that my uterus was filled with blood but they could not tell me why. They discharged me with the advice that they are confident it is the fibroid giving me all these problems and I should come back this week to have a mirena inserted rather than have surgery to remove the fibroid. My instincts prior to coming onto this forum was to NOT have the Mirena in as its a fairly new product and it was the only option being practically forced upon me. Making me more suspicious. Im now thinking of getting a second opinion but am not sure where to start. I live in Melbourne Australia.
