Hello,
Within minutes of using even only one spray of Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil, my heart starts racing and pounding, my blood pressure goes up from low to too high and I feel really uncomfortable. I thought (and hoped) transdermal magnesium would be safe to use and give LESS side effects. I've never experienced this kind of reaction with any oral magnesium supplement and had no side effects at all -even at high doses- from magnesium glycinate, although I did get heart palpitations from magnesium taurate. The only information I've found on the Internet on this subject is that getting heart palpitations from magnesium indicates the dosage is too high, but I don't believe that's the case with one spray (±12.5 mg elemental magnesium). The only contraindications for magnesium oil that are mentioned are "severe renal insufficiency" and "dehydration".
Anybody else experienced such a reaction while using magnesium oil?
Is there some logical explanation?

You may be low in calcium, Mg and Ca work synergistically at approximately a cal/mag ratio of 2:1! One also needs a full spectrum of minerals so over doing any one element may cause a ratio imbalance.

Could very well be that I'm low in calcium. I also read that people with low blood pressure usually require more calcium in addition to the magnesium. And my lymph system surely is a mess, so I'm going to look further into the "acidic lymph system".- Re: Heart palpitations and raised bl... JustinL

Ancient Minerals has a bath flake product. If you think the dose is too high, I would use that. But strangely, I've only ever heard of the magnesium HELPING heart palpitations.

I tried some magnesium oil I purchased from Swanson Vitamins. This oil seemed to be more salt than anything and caused the same problem with me. It had all the relaxing effect of gulping down a couple tablespoons of salt. Heart was racing, chest pains, etc.
This was the opposite of what I expected of a magnesium supplement. I went back to my Ionic Fizz Magnesium supplement for that great relaxed feeling. Its a bit pricey, but still best for convenience and absorbability (if that's a word). - Re: Heart palpitations and raised bl... gigi1114

This is a reply to # 1,486,243Hi, I know this is an older post, but the same thing happened to me. I'm sure it was the Magnesium Oil (magnesium chloride). I got terrible heart palpitations called ventricular ectopics. I had to go to a doctor for them, since they got so bad.
I started taking the cheap oral magnesium tablets of magnesium oxide, and it relieved the palpitations a lot. I tried the Magnesium Oil again one time, and they started again shortly afterwards.

This is a reply to # 2,054,832One thing that is different about magnesium oil and sea minerals from other types of magnesium supplements is that they have calcium in them. It may be either that you already have too much calcium or the opposite - you may have so little calcium or not be able to absorb it in your digestive tract and so your body makes a lot of the enzymes that use calcium and a sudden rise, even if it is a little bit, causes symptoms as those enzymes go to town until they have time to adjust.
In the first case you would want to avoid magnesium oil. In the second case you would want to gradually build up.Advertisement

I know this is an old post but I'm wondering whether I am having a similar reaction.
I started using Ancient minerals spray a long while ago and stopped due to my skin reacting really badly and becoming very dry. I have tried using it again recently with only small amounts sprayed on my arms and later washed off. I noticed in the night that I woke up with heart palpitations and recall having this during the time I was using magnesium oil before.
I'm wondering whether it is actually the chloride which is causing the palpitations and possibly the skin reactions? Any thoughts?- Re: Heart palpitations and raised bl... Pathway to Peace

This is a reply to # 2,123,573This also happened to my sister. She used magnesium oil before bed and it caused her heart palpitations. I think she used too much, and it caused an imbalance (as her sodium was low) or it could I have been detox.
Another case was myy mother who has high blood pressure and each time she uses magnesium oil her blood pressure RISES. She does not get this effect from ordinary Magnesium supplements or even Liposomal. So strange and disturbing because I could find NOTHING about this anywhere on the internet, only that magnesium oil is such a boon to high blood pressure. It certainly wasn't to her and she certainly gave it a good long try.Advertisement
