One way to get past the bad taste is to drink it all down before you can really taste it. Yes, that means learning to chug! It is easy to learn and you can practice with water until you get proficient. I chug my epsom and olive oil/grapefruit mix (also B&P shakes) and really have no problem with taste because it is over with so quickly. After the
Epsom Salts , a quick rinse of the mouth with water and all is well. Once I tried just drinking it slowly, and I can see why people hate the taste. Here is how to chug it down:
1) Breathe in very slowly and deeply through the nose, trying to fill up your belly completely with air. Breathe out very slowly through the nose, not so much exhaling as slowly letting the air pass out your nose. It will help you relax, and if you are tense, take several of these breaths.
2) As soon as enough air passes comfortably out your nose (but don't expel all the air in your lungs), take a small gulp to get things going and then just chug it down in big gulps. You must be very relaxed. At some point, you may feel like you can't breathe and should stop. Simply inhale a bit of air through the nose as you chug if you need to, but do not stop gulping. This is why it is so important to let most air out of your lungs when you start drinking, so you can breathe.
3) Be sure to practice with water before trying with unpleasant tasting fluids. Once you can chug water, you can chug anything. You miss most of the flavor when you chug.
And yes, I admit that I learned these tricks in college to chug beer in actual sponsored chugging contests (I bet they don't have those any more!). I will never chug beer again, but if I must drink something I do not like the taste of, I know I can do it.
For those of you who don't want to continue because you hate the taste, please consider learning to chug. I hate to see someone quit flushing because of taste!
