Years ago i did the Iodine patch test. Paint a square on skin and see how long it takes to absorb. The quicker it absorbs the more deficient you are.
I ended up dismissing the findings because i read it was not a valid test. What do you think Hv, anything in it at all?- Re: iodine patch test #91053

This is a reply to # 1,478,761I've taken one iodoral a day last few days. The other day i had flu like symptoms, like i was coming down with something. Today i've just become aware my throat is sore.

Is this a good or bad thing?It is not likely to have anything to do with the iodine. Do you have any muscle aches, fever, or other symptoms?

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,478,781One tablet of Iodoral is 12.5 MG of Iodine (same as 2 drops of Lugol's). That might be too much, if you have not built up to it.
Iodine is mucolytic (breaks down mucous} so you may experience a runny nose, increased salivation or sinus headaches. Iodine is also anti-parasitic and anti-microbial in action and so signs of detoxification or “die-off” may result. This is the well known Herxheimer reaction. If there is a long-standing Iodine deficiency, you may experience hyperthyroidism for a while or have a sore throat with a slight thyroid swelling. After a week or two, this should settle down; but it is best to start with smaller dosage and build up.

If something is going to absorb the skin then it is going to absorb through the skin. How much iodine that is in your system should have no effect on this.

This is a reply to # 1,479,084from a scientific point of view this is true because controls are impossible. from a practical standpoint most people are deficient so if the test convinces them to supplement, all the better.
whats the problem with the patch test? the Iodine can disappear for any number of reasons including high humidity and temperatures. where it does work is once you are Iodine sufficient(or thereabouts), that patch will last a long time, longer than usual under the same environmental conditions. therefor it does give a person a reliable gage of sorts.
so you see, from a lay person and do-it-yourselfer POV, it works fine. its just not accurate enough for doctors, and i cant blame them in this case.

Okay, so it does give you a rough idea. Just make sure conditions are similar each time you repeat? I can't remember, do i use the Lugols or the cheap Iodine for the test, or does it matter?
I have started taking iodoral again recently, and have started with one tablet. Someone said that is too much to start with. I actually found some Lugols that i still have from when i used to do 50mg a day, so what should i start with, as i can't remember, it was a couple of years ago now. Is 1 drop a day sufficient?
I don't want to go high dose again, just enough to help with my thyroid. I'm hoping it might work better this time around with getting my stomach acid working and absorping nutrients better etc.
