Hello. We are somewhat distressed parents of a 3 year old boy, who has/had beatiful hair.
Suddenly, around two weeks ago, we noticed a bald spot, on the back of his head, right around where you usually see it in middle aged men. We soon thereafter took him to a pediatrician, who has referred him to a some sort of dermatologist specialist, who I'm sure will want to prescribe one of the injections, or some such thing, that I've read have some bad side effets, with little gain. Meanwhile, the spot has grown significantly, and another spot has started on the rear, lower portion of his head, distressing us further.
Now, firstly, there is very little hereditary baldness that I'm aware of. I'm 40, and have no such spot even starting in the rear of my head. Some elevation, compared to younger years, with the hairline, but I'm not shocked by that.
It is quite coincidental to me, that just prior to this, he had an illness, that lingered for close to two weeks. Seemed like the usual child ilness with the nose symptoms, etc. He was more lethargic than usual, during this illness, as well. I just find it curious that the hair loss began right at the tail end of the illness, and am very suspicious that it might be related.
Having dealt with sinus problems for over twenty years, and with doctors never trying to find my root cause, and instead, only treating symptoms, I want to find out the cause of my son's problem. In addition to something to stop the loss and start regrowth.
If anyone can help, it is greatly appreciated. I've trolled this forum a bit, and see some products and herbs discussed, but am not sure what is safe for toddlers and children.
His appointment is Wed, June 8, so I hope to be fully armed, before I go there.
Thanks in advance.
Bill
