Whenever I see "D" mentioned... I think of cholesterol and fat metabolism... add a disease associated with one or the other, and I think dysfunctional fat metabolism.

Now obviously, more is at work here... like HFCS... which disrupts and changes not only fat metabolism, but also carbohydrate metabolism in the body for at least 6 hours after ingestion. Other refined sugars likely do the same.
BTW - check out HFCS and Alzheimer's... anything that has to do with disrupting fat metabolism is going to affect the brain.

Calcium and specifically iron deficiencies, among others (Africa, Mid-East, India - Newport's anti-D mantra is based on D studies in India that do not take this stuff into account... etc.) have been associated with D metabolism. In addition, drugs, such as steroid use has also been implicated in impairment of vitamin D metabolism.
Add poor quality protein foods and a poor environment and the recipe for the ever increasing cancer rate is complete.
Least I forget... liver disease and dysfunction is also a reason for vitamin D issues. 1 in 3 (the exact estimate of number of people who will develop some form of cancer during their lives; coincidence?) today are suspected of having some form of liver dysfunction due to their food and environment.
We live synergistically... disruption of that synergy comes from many things.
