CANCER
Sheep sorrel reportedly has strong infection fighting power, can relieve blockages of the stomach and intestines, restore a sick person's appetite, relieve nausea and vomiting, abscesses and ulcers, and has a long history as a folk remedy for cancer in the U.S. and Europe. This is one of 4 herbs used is

Dr. Julian Whitaker, M.D. recommends
Essiac tea for cancer. He advises drinking 2 fluid
ounces three times a day for at least 12 weeks without interruption. Also, 10 grams of vitamin C (read the Dr. Moss report on new vit. C trials) a day, 200 to 300 mg of coenzyme Q10, and shark cartilage.

For prostate cancer, he advises adding modified citrus pectin, which prevents cancer cells from adhering to anything.
Almonds (raw bitter almonds, up to 10 per day)
Laetrile --glycoside amygdaline has been used in cancer therapy since 1845. It is said to release hydro cyanic acid into the body, which destroys cancer cells, leaving normal cells intact. The use of almonds for prevention of cancer is Biblical.
Angelica (dong quai)-- reportedly has two ingredients which may be useful as a cancer preventative. It induces the body to produce interferon and has exhibited anti-tumor activity. Herbalists suggest 2 capsules of powdered plant two or three times a day for severe symptoms.
Barley water/barley juice--(spear water) Cook 2
ounces of barley in 6 cups of water to make a broth to be drank throughout the day for liver and bile problems. Cancer almost always involves a congested liver, and this helps the liver. Green barley juice powder taken with every meal (a teaspoon full in plain water) reportedly has anticancer properties. Also wheatgrass, which is similar. Found in health food stores under various names. Barley and wheatgrass juices contain chlorophyll, which have protease inhibitors to suppress cancer-causing agents in the intestinal track.
"Japanese researchers have discovered a protein--P4-D1--in barley grass juice that seems to protect cells from ultraviolet radiation and a specific carcinogen. This was said to be a result of the stimulation of DNA repair by this protein.
Both that protein and another in barley grass juice--D1-G1--have been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity when injected into lab animals. In addition, both these barely compounds are remarkably free from side effects." (pp.128-129)
Chlorophyll--(see above)--In his book Nature's Healing Grasses Dr. H.E. Kirschner, M.D., claims that chlorophyll is devastating to germs yet gentle to wounded body tissues.
Dr. Chiu Nan Lai at the University of Texas Medical Center reported that the more chlorophyll in a vegetable, the greater the protection from cancer-causing substances.
Ames testing showed chlorophyll protected from carcinogens like coal dust, tobacco, etc., far more than vitamin A, C, or E against mutations from these things.
Ellagic Acid--cancer preventative, not treatment--found in black-walnut shells, grapes, strawberries, black currants, raspberries, and cashews. Mice/rat studies indicated this compound prevents esophagus, liver, skin and lung cancers in test animals. It could also reduce the risk of stroke by almost half, according to Dr. Elizabeth Barrett-Conner and Dr. Kay-Tee Khaw in the January 29, 1987 issue of The new England Journal of Medicine.
Black walnut shells should be put in boiling water and brewed for at least 30 minutes, then strained, sweetened (preferably with honey or some other natural sweetener, not
Sugar or artificial sweeteners) and drank as a tea.
Chicory and Endive--among the seven "bitter herbs" of THE LAST SUPPER, believed to be invested with miraculous healing power. Chicory juice is a folk remedy for tumor and cancers of the liver, stomach, and uterus. Powdered seed is applied for indurations of the spleen. the leaf, boiled with honey, is used as a gargle for cancer of the mouth. (Be careful about the seeds of chicory--they were long regarded as an aphrodisiac.) The "latex" of endive--the milky substance of the plant--has been used for cancer of the uterus, tumors of the liver, spleen, and throat, and hardening of the spleen. Endive is used to increase bile flow and with chicory and is said to dissolve gall stones.
Vitamin A from natural sources (not pills, which can be toxic in overdose)--carrots, fish oils--studies by researchers at the Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute of the University of Texas, Journal of the National Cancer Institute, (vol. 48, 1942,), Dr. Max Odens in 1967, Dr. Unberto Saffioti at Chicago Medical school in 1968, and many others report that natural A in food products retards the growth and inhibit the induction of benign and malignant tumors. Overdoses can occur in synthetic pill form, but none are recorded when taken as a food in natural form. Also in liver and eggs. Best sources--cod liver oil (better in straight liquid form then in capsules, but more difficult to stomach, of course) and halibut oil. Also rich in vitamin D, needed for the assimilation of calcium and phosphorus.
Garlic--contains alliin, allicin, germanium--a proven anti-cancer nutrient-- selenium, and ajoene which have many anti-cancer properties. "Other sulfur compounds within garlic 'will block the development of colon, esophageal, and skin cancers in rodents exposed to specific chemical carcinogens that produce these malignancies.' " according to a report in the August 1991 Harvard Health Letter. Garlic has over 100 known sulfur products and may contain many more. These sulfur compounds "give garlic its disease-fighting power, help reduce blood pressure and blood sugar, relieve asthma and bronchitis, improve circulation and heart function, prevent cancer, and assist the body in getting rid of dangerous toxins." Fish Oil/Omega-3 oil--"Numerous studies show that fish oil consistently decreases the size of animal tumors, the number of tumors and their tendency to spread," according to Artemis Simopoulou, M.D., president of the Center for Genetics, Nutrition and Health in Washington, D.C.
Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish and fish-oil capsules, flaxseed oil, walnuts, and evening primrose oil. GLA (omega-3 gamma-linoic acid) is found in evening primrose oil, borage, and black currants. GLA and fish oils have been found to double the life expectancies of AIDS patients.
Grape Seed Extract--plant flavonoids, the procyanidins, or "PCO's" reportedly help rid the body of dangerous oxidants and free radicals, which are thought to cause aging and chronic degenerative disease, including cancer.
PCO's are 50 times more powerful than vitamin C and vitamin E in antioxidant action and protect cells from free-radical damage. Pine bark has similar properties. Daily use--50 mg. For therapeutic purposes, increase to 150-300 mg. No known side effects.
