About six weeks ago I had loose gums around one of my teeth. I oil pulled every morning upon waking for 20 minutes with extra virgin coconut oil and my gums tightened up in a short time. (I don't remember exactly how long it took, maybe a few days or maybe a week or two.) I then developed a cold that lasted for nearly a month--very unusual for me--and I assume it was a detox reaction. I stopped oil pulling when the cold developed.
Then I noticed pain in the gums around that same tooth, so I started oil pulling again. But it seemed to be taking longer to heal than I remembered it having taken the first time--more than a few days, and the tooth itself began hurting--so I started oil pulling two or three times a day. Last night my gum pain was worse and my gums were really swelling behind that tooth. I had bought something in the health food store, an herbal gel to heal gum pain, and I applied it to the painful and swollen gum area with a cotton swab. That seemed to remove the pain and I was able to go to sleep. (I didn't even brush my teeth last night because I was afraid the brushing would aggravate the gum pain.) Today when I woke up, there was no pain, but the swelling was still there and now the glands in my neck are swollen. I didn't oil pull this morning. I had a glass of water with echinachea and goldenseal mixed into it, and I'm having some echinachea tea. I'm not sure what to do. I'm worried that I might have made this whole thing worse by mismanaging it?
I found during the last several days that I felt better by drinking lots of water and not eating. It seems as soon as I ate, it would exacerbate the gum and tooth pain. But I have to eat, because I get hungry!
I really don't want to have to have that tooth root canaled or pulled. It's one of the upper central incisors right at the front of my mouth.
