Hi
This is not necessarily related to emergency room visits and I know what I am going to say is kind of self-evident but rates of illnesses and mortality are kind of expected to increase. Mental illnesses (like depression), drug and alkohol abuse, suicide ... increase. These also depends on the kind of social security programs a country has and familly structures.
In the insurance field, you may expect increase in fraudulous claims. People find ways to get alternative source of money. In a recession, I think car accident frequencies decrease while amounts of claims increases. Frequencies decrease because fewer need to travel to go to their jobs.
There are studies showing that disabilty cases increase as unemployement increases.

Feel fabulous by surrounding yourself with the ill! This little-known-beauty secret comes from actress/singer/occasional stripper Margo Freebase, who details the benefits of emergency room visits by crowing about her recent upswing in popularity since hanging about the ER.
"Before, it took me months to get asked out. Now, I always feel like the most beautiful girl in the room."
A few ER tips from Margo for you lonely onlies - avoid those with high fevers but instead cushion yourself between the pasty and yellow-pallored for a more jubilant, rosy exterior. Be sure to demonstrate your superior breathing abilities by making large, clear-nostriled intakes of breath. Your lack of wheezing and phlegm will charm your soon-be-suitors even if they are currently bleeding or in a state of toxic shock.
"Where else can you find a plethora of men you can outrun?" gushed Freebase, whipping out her hospital chart 'black book' of recent conquests.
"Let's see...there was 'walking pneumonia', 'sawed-off finger guy', and 'hurts to pee'. I, uh, actually dated 'hurts to pee' once before, but we rekindled that flame after his shot. He'll be back in the ER in no time...oh yes he will."
Margo is also available for hospital room visits, blood banks and school shots. Although recently incarcerated for coming on a bit too strong with 'mono boy', Margo hopes to be back in action by mid-April.
