I have joined Dr Fuhrman's website as a member and just started reading this book.
The introduction is quite good, it gives a case history of a man who was an ice skater, hoping to compete in the Olympics. Unfortunately he suffered an accident, hurt his ankle, was unable to walk. Being a champion, he was offered lots of money to get treatment, and ended up having tests for a year or so.
They were going to drug him up and perform experimental surgery on him, but he refused and left the hospital, and guess where he went? Dr. Shelton's Health Center in San Antonio.
After being in pain and unable to walk for a year he was fasted for 46 days at Shelton's center, after which he was able to walk again. While there he saw asthmatics cured, colitis patients who recovered without drugs or surgery, and even people who otherwise would have needed heart bypass surgery get cured. Not only did he just get back on his feet, but a year later he came third in the World Professional Figure Skating Championships.
His leg healed completely. After seeing these amazing things decided to change career and become a doctor. His name? Joel Fuhrman M.D. - the book's author.
So this might be a good book to get if you are fasting. I have seen enough of Fuhrman to know he is a genuine guy and the good thing is you can even join his website and ask questions.
Please note the book is called fasting and *eating* for health and it was published in 1998, these days he places a lot of emphasis on the eating side of things (for example his latest book is "Eat for Health", published 2008). Perhaps he is more into eating because he is aiming for the mainstream problems, namely widespread obesity, which is probably best addressed by making dietary changes. Nevertheless the book is in print, and I am sure all he says here is valid today, and of course this is a
Water Fasting forum!
I presume I will find much in there of interest, I like Fuhrman because he has a pulse and you can ask him questions, lol.
In fact I have already read in Chapter 1 that he thinks people must combine their fast with a
healthy Diet before and after fasting to maintain the benefits of the fast, and that in many instances the change in diet alone is sufficient to provide a complete recovery.
The
healthy Diet is what I am doing now, he calls it a high nutritional density diet.
I am also thinking of an animal injured in the wild, it would be unable to get food if it could not walk, and would lay there and not eat, maybe it would find a nearby stream and take refuge there.
Perhaps this is how animals get by when they don't have ambulances to call and hospitals to go to. They may just fast, get better, and find food.
