DQ,
The whole issue of Madoff has turned into a clustrf*ck, in so many ways. During the 2008 election, you took some heat, for mulitiple reasons, but mainly because you put up some posts that one "side" or the other didn't like. And mainly this was C who was pissed about you posting things against McCain, but it went beyond that. There were other people. But you put up shit against whatever 'side". Even though you were a Ron Paul guy.. And even though your tendencies run towards the liberal side of things. But you still were an equal opportunity naysayer.
Well consider me your counterpoint for the whole "Jewish" question. It is weird. I grew up in an exclusive "area", for whatever that is worth, and had almost no Jews at my private school, neighborhood or exclusive Country Club (and all three were pretty "exclusive" - no blacks or jews need apply). My dad (who is now 71, and I am 41), ran a family corporation, started by my grandfather. Times were good when I was growing up. But, eventually the company folded - it was in paper/ computer products - and when the industry took the right fork in the road, the company took the left fork, although my old man is by no means broke. However, his business partner (not a family member, an outsider), was a Jew - and he stole over a million dollars from my Dad. Essentially stole it from him personally - not a business write-off. When I talked to my Dad yesterday, on his birthday (also MLK's birthday), we talked about Madoff, and he brought up how it was so tragic that he stole from his "own" people. Well to me it didn't matter. I told him the biggest crime was that he was out on bail. But he still saw it as a "Jewish" issue. And it is tough to judge someone who grew up like he did, in his circumstances (exclusive), in his generation (mainly anti-Jewish), but I still love him. The Jewish partner stole over a million from him - and considering I have two brothers - he essentially stole one third of a million dollars from me, considering I will be inheriting eventually.
But regardless, the fact that he was Jewish is meaningless. The fact that O.J. is black is meaningless, even though you don't want to hear my Mom talk about blacks (that is a different story). Human nature can be pretty dark. And I don't mind people here trying to bring up injustices - but it has to be a two way street.. Just like you were doing last Fall. Everything in context. So even though I agree with a lot of the things that get said here... considering some of the other stuff that gets laid down here, bordering on anti-semetic and holocaust denial, I have to speak up. Even if people get the wrong impression that I am "Pro" Israel. There are enough people speaking against anything and everything Jewish, so even if I have many disagreements with the Jews/Israel, and have created some "enemies" here on this board, there always has to be another side or voice heard. Or else this strictly becomes a hand-holding ra-ra forum.
... and Bernie Madoff sits in his $7 million home for stealing $50 billion.
