"what do the cows, horses, oxen, gorillas live on?"
This is a very good defense for vegetarianism. The closest animals to humans genetically (primates, and animals like horses) eat mostly fruits and vegetables. Most grazing animals eat practically nothing but vegetables.
Next time someone tells me I need meat, I'm going to tell them to challenge a bull to a strength contest. The bull eats grass all day. Surely these people can defeat a bull in a wrestling match, because the bull doesn't eat enough meat to bulk up its strength.
That idea that humans must be omnivores to be healthy is completely ridiculous, and only shows how many people have a complete lack of formal logic. An eight year old has enough intelligence to observe nature for all of ten seconds, and debunk the protein myth.
