My 14 year old Cat was pawing at her mouth, hacking/coughing, drooling with some blood.
Took her to the Vet, they examined her, asked some questions, thought it could be a tooth problem and MUST have a dental cleaning/aneasthesia to determine. I made an appt.
Cat got worse, took her back, a different vet examined her, said they needed to do tons of tests and procedures to figure it out. They gave me an estimate of everything they plan on doing, it was outrageous, but nothing else I could do.
They also gave her many drug, pain meds, anti-inflammatory, anti-biotics and anaesthesia for the MUST HAVE dental cleaning. My cat was full of drugs with no diagnosis.
Picked her up and they could not tell me what was wrong, just gave her all the drugs, and the bill, $1,000.00 yes, a thousand dollars and no diagnosis. Took her home and got sick again.
I called another Vet after, and the first question she asked was, "Did you bring in any toxic plants" YES, a Poinsettia Plant, we looked at the plant and she had been chewing on it. We disgarded the plant, she immediately got better with no further episodes.
I looked up Poinsettia and cats online and the symptoms are exactly like my cat.
She wasn't treated for any toxicity or allergy.
What can I do about this bill, I feel like I was taken advantage of, pumped my cat full of drugs unnessarily, and never could tell me what was wrong with her. Had the vet asked me that first question like the other vet did. I never would have needed to go back, I would have just removed the plant.
Both these Vets should have asked me about allergies or new plants, it is the Holidays after all.
My poor cat went through Hell.
There must be something I could do about these unnessary tests and drugs and Bill. It's just wrong.
She wasn't even misdiagnosed, she was NO diagnosed.
Thanks for any advice
