Day 1/14

Some new principles have to be set up.

I went shopping yesterday, and the receipt shows...

3kg of carrots
30 apples
1 pineapple
----------
€8.69

This is one of the changes I put in place for this fast - instead of making my juices in larger batches I'll now see the extra trouble of juicing fresh every evening for the next day. This way I'll avoid the hours of making litres and litres of juices not to mention needing so many bottles to store it all inconveniently in my freezer, then needing to defrost those massive bottles of juice, and eventually while them being available for consumption me possibly being bored of that particular kind of juice by then. So now I might need to go shopping every second day or so, but that'll ensure me always getting fresh and attractive juice. There's no need to make fasting a chore, now this'll feel so much more like juice FEASTING, as many of you guys here already say!

I also decided to consume my fruits and veggies separately, just as on my raw diet - fruit until noon, and thereafter veggies (and, while eating, nuts and the rest of the stuff). This is not only based on the food combination theory but also me really preferring some energising and drawing nutrition at work not to feel poopy and "let down" for the rest of the day, and fruits are just the go.
Today I went for two 750ml bottles of apple juice, and some 200mls of pineapple juice. At home I've got a few beets waiting, as well as the carrots, and a large zucchini.
On top of these refreshments on the case I'm going to dilute some of the fruit juices due to deciding to consume only those the whole morning. When fruit were more like a novelty in my juice mixes their sweetness was more desired. Now that aspect can be limited slightly, still retaining their pull and colour.

I've successfully managed to empty my fridge and cupboard of foods. From now on I would like to eat precisely and only the amound needed for me and none in excess, and therefore I can't have my kitchen packed with nourishment at all times. I believe in the principle of a slight famine being only healthy. I believe in the natural state being the best state, and in the wild we wouldn't have food available at all times. The body functions better when under slight stress [not the kind of mental stress I possess, though], it's what the body has developed into, a hunting machine, a survival machine. Our biology is not that far from our caveman times.
I also believe it to be wise to break the fast with something more inviting than the worst tasting veggie pulp from my fridge I can find. I need to break the fast with something I can really marvel at, yet something simple, something that's easy to appreciate.
I had a short but interesting conversation about a caveman-style diet with a friend of a friend on Saturday, and he got me interested. I'll have to look into the subject more. Another thing I need to try, eventually, is sleeping on a hard surface. I've already slept without a pillow for a couple of months now, and always notice an unpleasant difference should I sleep with my head raised and neck twisted.

So I might be on the hard but bountyful road to that hardcore lifestyle change I've always anticipated - since childhood I've known I'm different, I'm to make a difference and to be of example and leading position. So here goes, 2009 will be brilliant!!

--------------------

My pre-week went painlessly and quickly. I didn't consume much soup since I wasn't quite into anything cooked but not into learning to make an actually delicious raw soup right then, either. So it was mostly light salad, and dates.

I suffered from the worst week of PMS in a couple of years, though, but I was relatively able to take it constructively. At least I have the energy to be angry and teary now, it's still better than staring into oblivion and sleeping for days in a row if given the chance!

I didn't flush just yet, but I did consume a litre of Colonsteril mixture which I had as a leftover from a recent colonoscopy. This was some sort of a laxative, similar to epsom salts, but with a citrus aftertaste.
--------------------

The first day has been easy so far. Last night while preparing my juices for work today I gladly noticed how easy fasting is now that I'm more experienced with it. So that's sorted. The only thing that's shadowing this experience...
...yep, call my life difficult or something, but it seems to be set in a static state of chaos! No wonder my adrenal gland decided to sign off the contract!
...My brother will be moving in for a week or two today. He'll be sleeping on the other sofa in my living room, which is a perfect arrangement, no problem. Only he let me know about his intentions last night, while I was busy manically cleaning up, juicing, Xmas decorating, hanging clothes, setting up a TV set [that I really didn't even want in my apartment!], and arranging important documents [all of those tasks mostly at the same time]. His food better not bother me in the fridge.
Also, a suicidal ex-colleague graces my life experience with his existence. I don't even know the guy apart from some virtual conversations, and eventually he trusted me enough to inform that he's going to act upon a plan. It was up to me to organise him into custody while I myself was working at my job of a switchboard.
Oh, no heart-breaks, house-moving, University entry exams this time? Fear not. Without going into detail on the less turbulent spectacles in my everyday life I can guarantee fasting over Xmas is the least of my exciting challenges for the rest of the year.

Note for self: buy a juicer of your own. One without that annoying sieve part which needs to be scrubbed for ages. Invest in a more pricey one to get an easy-to-clean one suitable for someone with a 'male mentality' [wants home stuff made easy] such as myself.
