Plantar fasciitis is irritation and swelling of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot. Reference from A.D.A.M.
The plantar fascia is a very thick band of tissue that covers the bones on the bottom of the foot. This fascia can become inflamed and painful in some people, making walking more difficult.
Risk factors for plantar fasciitis include:
* Foot arch problems (both flat foot and high arches) * Obesity * Running * Sudden weight gain * Tight Achilles tendon (the tendon connecting the calf muscles to the heel)
A typical patient is an active man age 40-70.
This condition is one of the most common orthopedic complaints relating to the foot.
Plantar fasciitis is commonly thought of as being caused by a heel spur, but research has found that this is not the case. On x-ray, heel spurs are seen in people with and without plantar fasciitis. In-Depth Causes » Back to TopSymptoms
The most common complaint is pain in the bottom of the heel, usually worst in the morning and improving throughout the day. By the end of the day the pain may be replaced by a dull aching that improves with rest. Back to TopExams and Tests
Typical physical exam findings include:
* Mild swelling * Redness * Tenderness on the bottom of the heel
X-rays may be taken to rule out other problems, but having a heel spur is not significant. Back to TopTreatment
Conservative treatment is almost always successful, given enough time. Treatment can last from several months to 2 years before symptoms get better. Most patients will be better in 9 months.
If these fail, putting the affected foot in a short leg cast (a cast up to but not above the knee) for 3-6 weeks is very often successful in reducing pain and inflammation. Alternatively, a cast boot (which looks like a ski boot) may be used. It is still worn full time, but can be removed for bathing.
Some physicians will offer steroid injections, which can provide lasting relief in many people. However, this injection is very painful and not for everyone.
In a few patients, non-surgical treatment fails and surgery to release the tight, inflamed fascia becomes necessary. Back to TopOutlook (Prognosis)
Nearly all patients will improve within 1 year of beginning non-surgical therapy, with no long-term problems. In the few patients requiring surgery, most have relief of their heel pain. Back to TopPossible Complications
Complications with surgery include:
* Infection * Nerve injury * No improvement in pain * Rupture of the plantar fascia
With other treatments, a complication is continued pain. Back to TopWhen to Contact a Medical Professional

I suffered for years with this and tried everything. The worse thing I ever did was cortisone shots. The doctor missed and hit a nerve and I was in so much pain I could not stand it. For 6 months I could barely walk. I switched apartments and went to one on the ground floor. The only thing I did to cure myself of this was so nononsense it wasn't funny. I bought soft cushy shoes and threw all the hard soles away. Some shoes have soft insides but then they are hard soles. I switched to a brand that has raised bumps on the inside of the shoe and I never had a problem again and that has been 2 years.
It is horrible painful and if you are overweight it is like suicide. It is like a nail sticking out the bottom of your foot, although it does not pierce the skin. So instead of the bone growing straight across your heel it goes down. So for years actually I could not even go shopping and do normal activity. I tried many things and found in the end if I would simply wear these ugly sandals I would get better.
Now I have no pain, I am small now too. I still wear these sandals from BATA and it helps. I find that if I go back to regular shoes I have pain again. So cushion shoes so important.
Yes that is how intense the pain is from what my buddy tells me. Like you say. That coupled with a real bad knee makes walking tough for him but it is almost self inflicted due to his weight. I'm glad you have found relief, doesn't sound like fun at all.
It is common to have knee pain. He needs to be taking Glucosamine Sulphate, 500 mg once a day and his knee pain will go away quickly. If he is rich and can afford them, up to 3 times a day. the rest of his life. It builds up the cartilage and is fabulous. The best I have found is from Quest.
The other thing he needs if he can switch to the more natural which is what I take is grape seed. If I take grape seed religiously, 2 caps a day, I have no knee pain, but I too the Glucosamine for 3 years. He needs the whole seeds, do not buy those stupid supplements, they are useless.
After he buys the seeds, griind them and put in caps. We are so lucky Hopinso is back she has so many wonderful cures.
That's great info...he had arthro surgery about 2 years ago....unfortunately he is his own worst enemy with the weight issue....he knows it but has to do something about it...it's sad....a 50 year old man hobbling around like he's 98
Tell him about me. I find it is better to tell someone a story than to say you need to quit such and such. I tell you, it was awful and it is like you have no hope for tomorrow. Thank God, I visit a friend of mine and she had a drug and supplement book and I just looked until I came upon a cure. Do you know I have recommended this more than Carter has liver pills. Even doctors ask me about my cure. It works. Within 3 days I was out of pain, but if he needed surgery his case is probably more than what I am talking about. If he won't loose weight and weight is pouring down on the joint, he is in trouble. I know many people who went to a chiropracter and did not have the same results. The thing here is it something necessary for life. It is expensive. 30 tabs in Jordan cost ten dollars. You need a minimum of one tab per day. That is a fortune here but in America, a drop in the bucket.
I get them at my herbalist but really we need to search a site to get them. It is the best thing in the world. It is good for things from the top of your head to your toes. From eyesight to circulation. For sure your mom needs them.
this is a link to one company. Keep in mind they are kind of expensive but 1/2 pound will last you for 3 months. If you are taking two a day. So you grind the seeds when you get them as you need should I say and then put into vegetarian caps. I cannot recommend the company as never used them.
God bless you Sara, I looked and looked, I have had her on a grape skin and seed supplement that I thought was good for the last several yrs. But you have showed me something far better.
Really I love you and your Mom so much, so everything is from God. I just know God wants you to be well. I pay 60 dollars a pound but I buy them because they are so necessary. I use to have to take b12 everyday but now take grape seeds. They are a cure for so much.
