I use the sound recorder in XP. Never had a problem before. Microphone works, as sound passes live through the speakers. Checked my settings - nothing is muted. Just won't record thru sound recorder. Are you trying to record through your microphone or through the computer as a sound source plays? You say you are doing something you once did exactly the same but nothing works? Have you recently installed the vile Service Upgrade 3? That might be the problem.

There was an automatic update that was installed last month. Several files just noted as "security update for windows XP"- Can't record sound - follow-up msteve666

This is a reply to # 1,296,997I just downloaded ANOTHER sound program and it worked just fine. The file even plays back in the sound recorder, I just can't record on it ?!?!?! :-(

Yesterday I downloaded RecordPad. It was a one day trial, so I uninstalled it. That is the only thing I did yesterday.
I just tried my Sound Recorder, again, today, and now it works. I DON'T KNOW WHY.
Don't care that I don't know why, well, I do, but who cares, ... it works now :-0
