What's vague about that? If Iodine is such a wonderful cure all...then my simple question was how much, say nascent, would one take to avoid all the diseases that Iodine helps (cures).
Iodine is not purported as being a "cure-all" as you've asserted. There is no cure-all, except death itself -- it does cure all indeed. One other cure-all is knowledge, and if you get enough of it, you can be your own cure-all.
Iodine rather, is an opportunity, for many things. Mostly, its an opportunity to learn. An opportunity to learn how to read both from published works of several MD's who know of its benefits, and an opportunity to see what others have written here, their personal anecdotal experiences.
What a person gets out of it, is largely dependent upon what they invest in it, on a time basis. Asking others for guidance is always an option, but those who've invested lots of time learning for themselves are not likely to continue to repeat the same answers, over and over, for every anonymous Joe who writes a question. I think they have some reasonable expectation that a person will read the FAQ, BSA messages and other messages that are rated with R's.
Iodine is a good practice fodder for becoming independent. Once a person master's what we know about it, it enables them to easier tackle other subjects. But it does require a time commitment, and those unwilling to make that commitment are likely to need to be told what to do indefinitely.
Best of luck to you in your learning, should you decide to go that route.
oh right missded your title "preventative of what"...answer. DISEASE.My wife's parents both died young, I would like to prevent that, okay?
I won't answer the comedians below. But one thing's obvious... Iodine increases one's sarcastic sense of humour?
The people of this forum have done a TREMENDOUS amount of work (unpaid, all done on a voluntary basis for the good of mankind) to answer questions such as yours.
If you had actually read the FAQ's in full, and read the BSA, RN, and R posts to any kind of degree, then you would know that the answer is different for many people. People want others to just answer this question for them, "just tell me what to do, and when it doesn't work, I can blame YOU" -
That's odd, I didn't feel harsh when I wrote it. What about Wombat's response? Oh nevermind, I'm just a number, so it's automatically assumed I'm harsh. That's ok.
I do have limited time to sit in front of the computer. I do like simplicity, I don't particularly like reading about everyone's individual problems and opinions. I assumed there was a basic protocol. Thanks for your help anyway.
sorry about my sarcasm:) And Iodine supplementation has not increased the sarcasm, it's always been there, some days more than others.
But it is danged difficult, if not impossible, to answer such a vaque Q or even know where to point someone's research. Thanks for elaborating.
It is my firm belief that everyone would benefit from a course of Iodine supplementation. Please do read over the FAQs, it's not a simple protocol, such as "take 2 iodoral and call me in the morning". And have your wife study as well, it's in her best interests to do so. For Iodine supplementation to work you have to take enough to boot out fluoride, bromide, etc., as these undesirable halogens sit on the receptor sites that iodine should. For that you need mg amounts. The io-docs claim that a three month course at 50mg per day will accomplish this. I'm not sure that I agree with that, I think it takes longer than that for most. I've certainly seen evidence of that on this board.
The only way to be sure that the body has reached "sufficiency" is to get iodine loading tests. There's info on that at http://www.breastcancerchoices.org
And then, how much maintenance, for life? The io-docs say 12.5mg daily for women, 8mg daily for men. That's about what the Japanese get.
But unless you take enough initially, to get some detox going, the iodine doesn't have a chance.
BTW, iodine is not a cure-all. Iodine supplementation cures iodine deficiency. Just so happens, though, that the entire body utilizes iodine, so iodine deficiency has certainly been shown to be a causal factor in many disease states
I don't know that it's not possible. I only know that research has been done with iodoral, the tableted form of lugol's.
In my own experience, consistent visible signs of detox started at 26.5 mg per day of lugol's.
Is that possible with the much weaker "nascent" iodines? I don't know. People do report good results taking that stuff. I have very limited experience with it.
"Is there a practical and simple way to lower the body's burden of fluoride and bromide? It has been known for sometime now that bromide competes with chloride in the extracellular space and that the total molar concentration of bromide plus chloride remains constant. (8) This concept has been used to decrease extracellular bromide levels by saline loading. However, the presence of bromide in the thyroid gland (9) and the central nervous system (10) suggests that there is another intracellular "pool" of bromide, not responding to chloride. In the thyroid gland, bromide competes with Iodide for uptake, oxydation and organification.
"Therefore, increasing Iodide intake should lower bromide levels in the thyroid, preventing and reversing its thyrotoxic and goitrogenic effects. The same applies to fluoride. Galletti and Joyet (12) evaluated the effect of 5-10 mg fluoride on thyroid functions in hyperthyroid patients. Although fluoride inhibited the iodide-concentrating mechanism of the thyroid, fluoride did not accumulate in the thyroid. Based on their radioactive tracer studies, they concluded "Fluorine does not impair the capacity of the gland to synthesize thyroid hormones when there is an abundance of Iodide in the blood." Therefore, fluoride toxicity depends on iodide supply."
"Following supplementation with the iodine/iodide preparation, there was a progressive increase in the excretion of fluoride and bromide. With 3 tablets, the 24h excretion of fluoride was 17.5 times baseline level; and for bromide, 18 times baseline level. These high levels persisted even after one month of supplementation at 3 tablets/day, being 15 times baseline level for fluoride, and 16 times for bromide. After one month, the estimated total amount of halide excreted was 24 mg fluoride and 8700mg bromide. It is unlikely that such large amounts of halides came from the thyroid gland. It would seem that the whole body is being detoxified. Orthoiodosupplementation could be used under medical supervision to detoxify the body from unwanted halides in a manner similar to the use of EDTA for the detoxification of heavy metals."
I take 4 Iodorals per day to eliminate my chance of getting breast cancer. My sis just had her second bout of ductal ca ending in a mastectomy. She just gave me the unopened Iodoral that I got her to purchase. I've printed her out the information from above site.
