Soil for Wheatgrass?

I'm not sure which soil to use and how much to use with each tray of Wheatgrass.
Should I use the EKO Organic Potting Soil Mix with Azomite or should I use Genesis Wheatgrass Soil?
Also, shipping the Genesis soil is going to be pretty expensive and I'd like to know if it's worth the extra cost.
I can have 40 quarts (two bags) of the Genesis soil shipped for $31.93.
I can have 40 quarts (five bags) of the EKO soil shipped for $14.69.
So as you can see, it's going to cost me about twice as much if I want to use the Genesis soil. Is it worth it?
Also, how much soil should I be using with each tray? I've grown five trays so far and I used about 1 inch.
Any help would be much appreciated.
BTW, I don't want to make my own soil so that's not an option for me.Advertisement

This is a reply to # 1,268,717Shipping dirt is not very economical and there is always plenty near by.The cheapest way would be to buy a large bag of perlite or vermiculite along with a large bag of peatmoss.Mix this 50/50 and you have a generic growing medium that will give you the best control features do to its makeup.I fill my trays all the way up and get my supplies at a local greenhouse.lowes has these items but are starting to phase them out at this time of year.You can always use plain old potting soil when in a pinch it all depends on how much work you wish to do in your growings on.So how has your flats been turning out,nice growth with high yields?

Everything seems to be going great. I haven't seen any mold yet. I havne't actually juiced the grass yet. I've got several bunches in my fridge. I'm starting a Juice Fast today so I'll find out how much juice soon.
Now do you cut your grass as you juice it or cut it all at once and put it in the fridge? I've got my grass in those green bags so they stay fresh.
I used 1.5 cups of seed for a few trays but I think two cups of seed is the way to go. I also picked up a bunch of the seed you recommended.- Re: Soil for Wheatgrass? grassman

This is a reply to # 1,270,846I generally juice the grass straight off the flat but if I produce to much its better to harvest than let it get past its prime.
