My mother-in-law has had a garden every year for years- she's 82. I told her I was getting little zucchini that would shrivel up and die and fall off, and she told me to hand pollenate them.
Take the "male" blossom when it opens, the one that has one stem in the middle, and pluck off the whole blossom. Peel back the pedals of the blossom, and touch the male stem that has the pollen on it, to the center of any female blossoms you find open.
I haven't seen any bees around..and we grow alfalfa in a field right next to where our garden(s) are planted.
