Hi, good to see u taking some initiative,I m suffering from EC for the past 5 years.I didnt kissed anybody, but i suffered a severe mouth sore at the time i got EC. Doctor told mouth sore will come because of stress which i had at that time.As a result of mouth sore my lips become very dry and i guess cracked when i smiled.

anyone of u here have cuts anywhere around the time u got EC? esp those who kissed?
-my lips were chapped quite often so maybe

what do u think of their theory?
-it's possible but our condition is so rare...

how long u have been having EC alrdy, and what u think u did around that time that caused EC.
-I have had EC for about 13yrs and for the last few years it has gotten worse. In fact, on the onset of my EC it was easy to deal with and it was a relatively small area. Now it's a pain in the ass and i can't go without a few hours of having white crap forming on my lips. I believe constantly picking/peeling my lips triggered the EC.

Edit: By the way, I have never kissed before so yeah... Personally, I think we have some genetic disorder where we're deficient in something to keep our lips from healing properly. The onset of trauma to our lips may have triggered the EC because we have a low threshold while normal people have a high threshold to acquiring this.

I will try to discribe what u asked for, perhaps, it will help:
1. I have ec for about 19 yrs
2. I am a male, i was about 19 when it started
3. As far as i remember the lower lip started to be very dry, cracked and as a result opened wound because of the crack and finally a derm gave me some cream but it didnt help and one day i applied on it salt with out knowing the effect(i am african), at that time i was in africa and we believed that salt helps for wounds and that is why i applied it with out cosulting anyone and in the morning when i brushed my teeth the skin just exfoliated for the first time and since then it continued exfoliating in about every week, but before it sarted i was in depression, intensive anxiety, panic, insomnia and ec started in these unforgetable days, so i relate it to the things i mentioned because of chemical(hormone) imbalance as the anxiety and Depression continued with out getting medical help, in the 90's i had a chance to be in the US and after many creams with no help, i gave a biopsy test and the result was HYPERKERATOSIS AND BACTERIAL COLONIES WAS SEEN IN THE SURFACE OF THE SKIN, so, it doesnt tell any typical problem, so it is cosidered as dry skin problem,but in 2007 i started to see on the upper lip a white tissue inside the lip where the VERMILLION starts when i wake up every morning and i rubbed the white fresh mucosa(the one before it started to be dead skin), then in a few days the whole upper lip started to have the dead skin and then it became exfoliating problem like the bottom after about 18 yrs it is so amazing, so the bottom line is that no doctor could convience me that it is a dry skin problem, because now i know that i didnt have any symptoms of dryness of the upper lips or i didnt lick it or bite it but i was in deep stress specially by insomnia and i believe as a result the upper lip started to join the bottom lip. Why now after many yrs? that i dont know,maybe the upper lip has more resistance for the chemical change due to stress, depression...but any way again after this i gave a biopsy test and it was about the same result with the first. I wrote about this for this forum but i write again that may be it will help to find the root cause.

I have had it for about 4 years now

Male and have had it since I was 18 or 19 (currently 23).

3 and what u think u did around that time that caused EC.
It stated with a small part of my bottom lip and an inverted triangle shape in the middle of my upper lip was affected. It used to peel when it came in contact with water and later on it spread to and my lip became swollen. It has recently spread to the upper lip too.

Have visited 2 Derms and 2 GP's but have not been able to cure it.

Think it might be some infection as there is a build up of some white stuff on my lips when i get up in the morning.
