O,
Thanks for the interesting Scientology info, although technically, I don't think Humble's a member.
Again, to address your confusion about Chlorine Dioxide:
You wrote:
"Also... with regard to my previous comments about the use of chemicals such as sodium chlorite by the Ancient Egyptians... it must be remembered that sodium bicarbonate was not found as an isolated element... no Arm & Hammer back then. Natron also contained other chemicals including sodium chlorite...."
There's no ClO2 or Chlorite in baking soda, available in your local supermarket or not.
From the following website:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natron
"Natron is a naturally occurring mixture of sodium carbonate decahydrate (Na2CO3·10H2O, a naturally occurring form of soda ash) and about 17% sodium bicarbonate (Nahcolite[1], baking soda, NaHCO3) along with small quantities of household salt (halite, sodium chloride) and sodium sulfate."
You still seem to be confused, although somebody did point this out to you already, look at sodium chloride mentioned above as being part of Natron:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_chloride
"Sodium chloride, also known as common salt,
table salt , or halite, is a chemical compound with the formula NaCl. Sodium chloride is the salt most responsible for the salinity of the ocean and of the extracellular fluid of many multicellular organisms. As the major ingredient in edible salt, it is commonly used as a condiment and food preservative. In one gram of sodium chloride, there are approximately 0.3933 grams of sodium, and 0.6067 grams of chlorine."
Chloride, not chlorite.
This leads us to chlorites and Chlorine Dioxide, ClO2, supposedly what
Miracle-Mineral-Supplement becomes when acid is added.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ClO2
"Chlorites are also known as salts of chlorous acid."
"The free acid, chlorous acid, HClO2, is only stable at low concentrations. Since it cannot be concentrated, it is not a commercial product. However, the corresponding sodium salt, sodium chlorite, NaClO2 is stable and inexpensive enough to be commercially available." [note - this is what mms claims to be]
"Sodium chlorite is derived indirectly from sodium chlorate, NaClO3. First, the explosively unstable gas chlorine dioxide, ClO2 is produced by reducing sodium chlorate in a strong acid solution with a suitable reducing agent (for example, sodium chloride, sulfur dioxide, or hydrochloric acid). The chlorine dioxide is then absorbed into an alkaline solution and reduced with hydrogen peroxide,
H2O2 (Hydrogen-Peroxid) yielding sodium chlorite."
"The main application of sodium chlorite is the generation of chlorine dioxide for bleaching and stripping of textiles, pulp, and paper. It is also used for disinfection in a few municipal water treatment plants after conversion to chlorine dioxide."
I haven't any idea what you mean by "Natron also contained other chemicals including sodium chlorite...."
If you look at the above information, it demonstrates that Natron contained sodium chloride, not chlorite. These are not the same thing.
Then you wrote:
"The point that I was making is that the claims that this chemical is newly discovered and has new applications is dishonest."
I already posted this information but here's a short version:
http://www.iddeas.com/434.html
"Chlorine Dioxide gas (ClO2) was discovered in 1811 by Sir Humphrey Davey, three years after he discovered chlorine."
This chemical is relatively newly discovered and if you look into how it had been used, created, etc, there are many new things under the sun. There are variety of uses for ClO2, many of them relatively new. I think Humble wins the prize for most unsafe, however.
