Actually, good astrology is more complicated than that; having your charts done and compared will establish any connections between your personal planets, especially the all-important venus, mars and sun for a love connection.

Unfortunately, just the signs are as useless as those daily horoscopes in the newspaper...they just don't address the individuality needed.

Check the internet for a website that does that, generally about $25 per chart. You would need one for you, him and a comparison (synergy) chart.
