Legislation Designed to Destroy Natural Medicine Industry
The Canadian equivalent of the FDA is rattling their sabers and threatening comprehensive new laws that could potentially criminalize literally all aspects of alternative and natural medicine. Big Pharma is obviously in support of such moves, so you can bet that with their financial and political sway, we may soon face increased challenges to our health freedoms here in the US. Not only does this legislation seek to restrict the sale of herbs, vitamins, and any other substances on the target list, but would also forbid the private use or production of such remedies in an individual's own home.
The days of being able to "doctor" ourselves at home, or more importantly, using natural substances (even foods) to prevent disease, may be limited if governments and other powerful organizations have their way. These attacks on natural health freedoms are a clear and present danger to our welfare. It is important the freedom-loving people everywhere stand up and make their views known to our government representatives while we still have a chance to make a difference. Several years ago, the homeschooling movement banded together to pool their political influence, and the freedom to homeschool has been preserved despite the agenda of some to stamp it out. Perhaps we should learn a lesson from these home-educators and begin to apply similar tactics in order to maintain our natural health freedoms.
Canada's C-51 Law May Outlaw 60% of Natural Health Products; Big Pharma Pushing to Criminalize Supplements
by Mike Adams
(NaturalNews) A new law being pushed in Canada by Big Pharma seeks to outlaw up to 60 percent of natural health products currently sold in Canada, even while criminalizing parents who give herbs or supplements to their children. The law, known as C-51, was introduced by the Canadian Minister of Health on April 8th, 2008, and it proposes sweeping changes to Canada's Food and Drugs Act that could have devastating consequences on the health products industry.
Among the changes proposed by the bill are radical alterations to key terminology, including replacing the word "drug" with "therapeutic product" throughout the Act, thereby giving the Canadian government broad-reaching powers to regulate the sale of all herbs, vitamins, supplements and other items. With this single language change, anything that is "therapeutic" automatically falls under the Food and Drug Act. This would include bottled water, blueberries, dandelion greens and essentially all plant-derived substances.
The Act also changes the definition of the word "sell" to include anyone who gives such therapeutic products to someone else. So a mother giving an herb to her child, under the proposed new language, could be arrested for engaging in the sale of unregulated, unapproved "therapeutic substances." New enforcement powers allow Canadian government to seize your home or business.
At the same time that C-51 is outlawing herbs, supplements and vitamins, it would grant alarming new "enforcement" powers to the enforcement agents who claim to be "protecting" the public from dangerous unapproved "therapeutic agents" like, say, dandelion greens. As explained on the
http://www.Educate-Yourself.org
website, the C-51 law would allow the Canadian government's enforcement agents to:
-Raid your home or business without a warrant
-Seize your bank accounts
-Levy fines up to $5 million and a jail terms up to 2 years for merely selling an herb
-Confiscate your property, then charge you storage fees for the expense involved in storing all the products they stole from you
C-51 would even criminalize the simple drying of herbs in your kitchen to be used in an herbal product, by the way. That would now be categorized as a "controlled activity," and anyone caught engaging in such "controlled activities" would be arrested, fined and potentially jailed. Other "controlled activities" include labeling bottles, harvesting plants on a farm, collecting herbs from your back yard, or even testing herbal products on yourself! (Yes, virtually every activity involving herbs or supplements would be criminalized...)
There's more, too. C-51 is the Canadian government's "final solution" for the health products industry. It's a desperate effort to destroy this industry that's threatening the profits and viability of conventional medicine.
Natural medicine works so well -- and is becoming so widely used -- that both the Canadian and American governments have decided to "nuke" the industries by passing new laws that effectively criminalize anyone selling such products. They simply cannot tolerate allowing consumers to have continued access to natural products. To do so will ultimately spell the destruction of Big Pharma and the outdated, corrupt and criminally-operated pharmaceutical industry that these criminally-operated governments are trying to protect.

Imagine a world where Health herbs and supplements are OUTLAWED.
• Where natural vegetable juice is classed as a DRUG.
• Where health food stores are stripped of all their products and banned from selling anything stronger than a cup of water.
• Where naturopaths are FORBIDDEN to practice their craft... imprisoned or fined when they try to pass on their knowledge...
• Where people with cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's aren't allowed to seek out alternative remedies to ease their pain... where they aren't deemed responsible or intelligent enough to look for their solutions to their disease... however slight the chance of a cure.
Where books that promote natural remedies are bulldozed into large piles and burned.
Have I been watching too much Science-fiction lately?
Yes, I realise this all sounds very paranoid - But stay with me on this one...
This is a scenario that really COULD happen. And this could happen soon. The seeds are already being sown. We just need to take a look across the Atlantic.
Yes, in the USA, some nasty things are about to happen in health care legislation. Believe me, this is something you WON'T be reading about in your newspaper. But in my world it is front page news. And I think you're going to be just as horrified as I am.
This new law could destroy hope for millions
In the USA, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is launching a quiet attack on natural medicines... and all who practice, give health advice and supply information about it.
A new FDA "guidance" document has revealed plans to reclassify all vitamins, supplements, herbs - and even vegetable juices - as FDA-regulated drugs.
Massage oils and massage rocks will be classified as 'medical devices' and will require FDA approval before anyone can use them.
The document is called Docket No. 2006D-0480, "Draft Guidance for Industry on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Products and Their Regulation by the Food and Drug Administration."
It's absolutely outrageous...
It seems that the mega-corporations who run America are so frightened of the rise of alternative therapies; they want to stamp them out altogether.
This is the 'Big Push' for greedy drug companies
Basically, it's an all-out attack on personal freedoms by greedy corporations. A last-ditch attempt to save the conventional medical industry from a huge shift towards natural medicine.
According to Mike Adams of The Organics Consumer Association:
"If the FDA gets its way, the United States will become a medical wasteland, dominated by corporate drug company interests, where the naturopaths are imprisoned and their products destroyed."
Supplements and herbs will become contraband, and gardeners who grow their own medicinal herbs may be raided and arrested by DEA agents wielding assault rifles.
Simply selling dried broccoli sprouts as being "good anti-cancer foods" may land you in prison, and running a vitamin shop could result in you being arrested for "practicing medicine."
This will be the situation in the future...
FDA "experts" (the same people who re-approved Vioxx after it killed over 50,000 Americans) will decide whether herbs, supplements, vitamins or simple devices like massage stones are to be regulated as drugs and medical devices.
Of course, this is a horrifying proposal.
So rather than spark a proper national debate, it seems that the FDA and its cronies tried to sneak this under the radar... keeping it rather quiet.
Now word has got out and the natural health community is up in arms.
Why this matters to you and me
You're probably thinking that this is all happening in the United States, so it means we're safe here in the UK and Europe. Well, no. What happens in the USA invariably drifts across the water within the decade. The same big businesses hold sway over our government.
And the same attacks are ALREADY happening.
If you recall, last May, a letter was published in The Times slamming Homeopathy and other complementary therapies as "bogus" medicine. The letter, organised by Michael Baum, was sent to 467 acute and primary care trusts across the UK. Sue Croft, Director of Consumers for Health Choice (CHC said:
"The group of doctors are entrenched in the old philosophy that curing disease with drugs is the way to good health. This one-size-fits-all approach is wrong and doesn't work. It completely disregards the fact that we are all individuals with different anatomy and physiology, as well as mental attitude and lifestyle."
"The doctors say there is no proof that homoeopathy or even acupuncture works (though it has been used for thousands of years). But lack of evidence today should not be a barrier for the future. If these alternative treatments are taken away - or blocked by just financial considerations, we will never really know what they are capable of.
I couldn't agree more!
It's up to us to fight for our freedom
You and I are of a similar mind. We are open to ancient healing techniques and the power of foods and natural medicines to help us fight disease. We don't think conventional medicine is bad. Neither do we want to ban it, as the FDA want to ban non-corporate alternative health treatments.
We simply think we have a right to look for ways to supplement conventional medicine with alternatives.
It's our right to choose. It's our planet. It's our food. It's our plant-life, vitamins and minerals.
It NOT the government's...
It's NOT the corporation's.
It's OURS.
I'll be keeping an eye open for all the latest developments as they happen. And if a petition comes to the UK, believe me, I'll pass it round.
