How do you know Charlie is lying about his practice? Not mentioning his origin in the medical field is his prerogative, just like other owners here who chose not to describe what they do before coming here.
I knew about the flooring business before he started this forum. This shouldn't affect anyone's judgement about his knowledge of herbs to heal the liver.
I was here in CZ only for 1-2 years but what Charlie posted about the liver/bile action made more sense than wading thru 50 pages of posts at the LF forums. Stimulating bile release (harshly) is not the same as enhancing bile production. No one mentioned this point at all at LF forums. Liver flush is akin to pressurized dry plumbing to remove silt!
But I agree he should demonstrate the efficacy of the liver tonic and his knowledge to the purists. This forum and the liver tonic concept is new for many. This shouldn't be hard to achieve. A small sample tonic lasting for a few days should temporarily relieve those with chronic constipation, although not in a painful laxative manner. People do eat daily and BMs should be timely and regular. But chronic cases lasts for days, sometimes close to a week. If the tonic works, the effects should be strikingly visible. (Although I'm frustrated I can't get the tonic due to customs & shipping here, sigh.)
People get cheated when they approach something out of fear, greed or desperation of a quick fix (it's greed mostly). Seek clarification on the subject before committing, on a cool head. It does not matter what the "seller" wants, what's important is what you seek and how you do it. Learn and ask questions before going into it, not after.
I can understand why Charlie guards his formula. It could be due to regulations or basic human nature. I've seen worse in older TCM geezers, while having no one to pass their knowledge to (no successor), and cannot tolerate the competition knowing their hard-earned secrets, took their medical knowledge to their graves. It's a real pity because many people are ill and unable to find permanent relief. This wouldn't happen if they are given proper recognition for their accomplishments. Internet is not the place for this generation of folks. A book is a good idea and benefits humankind as well.
Food for thought : Why does a student seek a teacher? Because of the desire to change (one's way of thinking). If it's knowledge you seek, books in a library offers more. A student trying to change the teacher to align with his own thinking is laughable.
