I have no problem giving myself an enema, but I have a great problem getting more then a a cup or so of water inside me before I have to expel it. What am I doing wrong? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated as an enema this small does not really do much good. I continue to administer trying to finish a bag but get frustrated when I leak & don't seem to be able to increase the amount of fluid I can take or retain.- Re: taking an enema iowabee

i have learn the best way for me is lying down on my left side with enema bag about two feet above level of injection, using warm and soapy water. allow water to flow slow, if it gets to feel like you can not hold it anymore. stop the flow for a moment and continue when the urge to defeciate ends. do this as many times as possible until you have to defeciate. this has always worked for me. hope this helps. i do use a two quart,openn top enema bag and also the rectal tube, not the douche nozzle.

Hi 92263,
I understand your frustration. Here is what I would do: take your first enema one or two cups, expel and then take a second enema, try to take more fluid in say maybe 3 or 4 cups then try to take a 3rd enema maybe try 1 ½ quart. MoreThis is a reply to # 1,132,708What is the temperature of the water you are using? It should be no hotter than 103 degrees F (39.5 C) at preparation time, and no cooler than body temperature.
Also, don't hang the bag more than about 2 feet above your hips or it may cause uncomfortable cramping. Allow a few ounces in at a time while breathing slowly and deeply, and if you start to feel too full or if you start to cramp, pant like a dog using short shallow breaths and clamp off the flow. After a minute or so when the cramping subsides, resume the flow.
Take your time and don't hurry!
