With all due respect, White Tiger, why do you keep posting these bs misinformation pieces you got from your emails?
Let's think about this one.
"Here’s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit."
Like many things, when you buy gasoline from a particular gas station, you don't necessarily know which company you're getting the gasoline from. The underpaid clerk inside the convenience store most likely doesn't know, either.
And then what? You're just gonna shut down some gas stations. The gas station usually doesn't make a tremendous profit off the fuel. They have convenience stores to make up some of the costs with the cheap, craptastic goods inside.
The ONLY way we're going to put any "pressure" (ha!) on "them" is to do the following:
Stop driving, or reduce your driving drastically. Every day.
Start following that complex web of things that derive from petroleum. Plastics? Most are from petroleum. Stop getting new plastic bags. Don't buy anything that comes in a plastic container. Don't buy new plastic containers. Waxes? Many derived from petroleum. That means your paper bag, if it has a wax coating, may actually be from petroleum. The goods you buy? How far did they travel? Hmm. Flying on an airplane? Hmm. Ordering supplements from far away? Sorry, those had to travel to get to you, with packaging from petroleum.
And then...guess what? If you're the only one doing it, it won't count for much! Everyone has to do it. Constantly. Put a big fat crimp in that lifestyle. Need something at the corner store? Don't drive to get it. Consider not even buying it at all. Consider growing, making, whatever it yourself. Get it from the Goodwill. Re-use. Don't drive 20 miles to get a used one, either.
And THEN...what about the fuel that powers your house? Gotta come up with your own local sources. Did you know there used to be a cottage industry of ethanol production in this country? Stop relying on some big, far-off corporation for your goods & services, taking your dollars far away.
And then...your prices are gonna be way higher! Corporate welfare from our government, numerous things...they keep our prices artificially low, the true costs hidden. Trashing our environment? Not included in the cost usually.
Face it...nothing is going to change in this country unless everyone makes some major changes to their lives and government. It's not gonna be fun or easy.
