I thought for sure that I had MS as well. I have a brother and a cousin with it, so it runs in our family and with the strange symptoms I thought it was MS. Then I found this site and others and I think everything I was experiencing was the Mirena.
I've had the strange electrical sensations in my left leg and arm and still have them, but not as much as I did before. I had pins and needles feelings and tingling in my legs, arms, back, face, and head.
I'm 2 weeks post removal and still having some of the electrical sensations, but not as much.
I also was diagnosed with a thyroid autoimmune disease (Hashimoto's Thyroiditis) about a month after getting my Mirena. I have since read that the hormone imbalance that Mirena causes in some can increase your risk for such autoimmune diseases. Anyway, the symptoms of the thyroid disfunction are often times similar to the side effects of Mirena. Once I got my thyroid stabilized many of my symtoms got much better, like the muscle and joint pain and pins and needles sensations.
Also, I've been taking Magnesium since hormone imbalances can cause one to be deficient in that area. I started it when I found out about my thryoid because that also causes you to be low on Magnesium. Anyway, I didn't find that it helped much so I stopped, but since having the Mirena removed I started it again and I think it is helping. I used to have really bad muscle twitching and now I don't anymore, except my left eye. It still twitches but not like it did before.
Magnesium deficiency symptoms involving the peripheral nervous system include numbness, tingling, and other abnormal sensations, such as zips, zaps and vibratory sensations.
For you that are having some strange symptoms of electrical or vibrating sensations you may want to try some Magnesium. Magnesium deficiency also results in muscle soreness and such.
I think that it has really helped me and it is a relatively cheap thing to try.
