I have an Inguinal Hernia (right), and also had an Inguinal Hernia (left) about
40 years ago. I do not know if there is any link between childhood anxiety or
not, but I also had a nervous childhood. I am planning on having the surgery
described by Dr. Desarda on his website. My advice regarding laxatives is "do not
use them under ANY circumstances". That is based on my sorry experience with them.
Diet and exercise are the only solution in my opinion. As for softeners, I dont
know, they didn't help me. Walking, particularly hills, is helpful. Coffee, strong,
in the morning can be helpful, dates, figs, "RIPE bananas", can be helpful. Apart
from that, a general good diet and exercise. Do not sit for overly-long periods,
and get up walk around and touch toes. Do not drink ANY alcohol. Also, try
apples cut-up and cooked in a cup and a half of water. Eat the apples, drink juice.
I had the ultrasound described by Dr. Desarda to confirm the hernia. If you want
any more advice for what it may be worth, just ask. Also, after lunch and dinner,
2 cups of hot, weak, "black" tea. The main problem with laxatives is that with
excessive use they prevent peristalsis. I am very opposed to them because they
are dangerous for that reason.
